Did a day there a couple of months ago - best fun you can have with your clothes on !

I did 75.59 in their "JP3", which frankly I thought was horrible. I could not get on with the flappy paddles at all - the change just horribly slow. Despite their protestations to the contrary they are just standard C2 Tips with a bit of body kit, cage and stripped interior with a good suspension set up. Not sure it gives you much guidance for track day times as they tend to use the full GP Circuit whereas on the Palmersport day you just use the South (?) Circuit for the JP3.

81.08 in damp conditions. The best time on the day (when the track was dry) was 76.86. Anyone doing 75 seconds is doing bloomin' well

Don't worry about lap times, its an extremely artificial situation: you are doing a handful of laps in an unfamiliar car on an unfamiliar circuit with some bloke sat next to you barking at you to go faster. How well you do will have more to do with who your instructor is and how you gel with them, and how able you are to do what they say - regardless of what your instincts may tell you.
And then as soon as you feel you are starting to get a hang of it, you have to move on to the next car.
The beauty of a trackday is that you get to to push yourself on at your own pace and feel yourself making mistakes/getting things right/progressing as the day goes on.

I managed 77.84 on Monday (see other thread) and the best time on the day was 75.12. It was just after lunch and there had been a shower at lunch time so the track was marginally damp but nothing to worry about, until I did a 360. More to do with lifting off the throttle in mid corner than the track methinks.

I think that's a perfectly valid excuse...

I did a Palmersport day last weekend and even the instructors were complaining about the track conditions. Not only was it damp on account of it being first thing in the morning, but also one of the 996s dumped its oil on circuit. As a consequence of having to wait for the oil to get treated, a number of us simply didn't get a chance to post a decent time...

FWIW I didn't really like the tiptronic/paddleshift setup on the cars - it gave a very "detached" feel.

Without wishing to blow my own trumpet - I really didn't get on with the car or with my instructor (it was warm and dry by the way ....). Left to my own devices I'm confident I could have knocked at least a couple of seconds off that time ...... But as everyone has said it's pretty meaningless - you only have a handful of laps in car you don't know sitting on the wrong side with an instructor you don't know. It's more to do with how confident you are that you know where the circuit is going and how ballsy you are prepared to be - nothing much to do with technical driving ability. I managed a pretty neat 720 when I over-cooked it - just didn't feel at all connected to the car.

Out of interest what times did anyone else manage in the JP1 and the FPA ? From memory I did 1.22 and 1.20 respectively. They were serious fun - infinitely better than the Porsche. Again I think those times are more to do with knowing the circuit well and being brave ont the brakes than anything else ...........

I had the same problems as Jamie, the day overall was fantastic but my instructor was a complete and utter T**T.

Whilst doing the vx220's he kept grabing the steering wheel on the last corner before the start finish straight to make me change my line causing the car to spin !!! After the thrid time of this and after a very brief exchange of words he didnt do it again and cue perfect four wheel drift out of the corner all the way to the start finnish line from the apex.

Great day !!

JP1 I did 1:22.58 and best of day was 1:17.83. On the FPA I did 1:21.79 and I don't have best of day for that. I took the easy way out with the FPA and did the whole lot in 3rd. Silly little gearstick was much too difficult to manage easily. On the long straights and the full power curves at the back of the circuit the rev limiter was popping so I could have improved on my times by using 4th I suspect.

Reading all these other times for the JP1, I can vouch for the 'it all depends on your instructor' excuse. My best was 1.17.8, fifth best time of the day and that was all because I trusted the bloke sitting next to me. I thought the guy with me on the Evo autotest was an arrogant, aggressive sod and I was rubbish in that (but rally car - who cares?)

I got stitched on the JP1

First car we got into the headset just gave met feedback. Bearing in mind they check the headset after they have bolted you into the seat, i then had to get into another one, and the headset also didnt work.

Meant half the time on track as the others, and only got hand signals. Certainly one i aim to improve on in a weeks time!

Don't get me started on technical faults. I also had to rely on handsignals when driving the Caterham in the rain (I learnt how to do standing start 180 donuts though, which was fun...). The 350Z was less fun though. What's the point of having a tail-happy RWD coupe on a wet track when the button for the traction control is stuck on?
