Had my 997 Carrera S for 6 months now and absolute love it. However, I have a major problem... Driving home across London tonight I counted nine 997s on the roads..!! Every f****ng banker in London has one. mad

Given mine is now only probably worth a fiver (bloody depreciation) I've decided it's time to stand out from the crowd - wouldn't want people thinking I'm just another tosser banker whose Porsche never gets out of third gear (sadly I am banker but at least mine does see the occasional track day..).

So started to look around for stuff to tinker with. First stop RUF for maybe some cool wheels, maybe new steering wheel, etc. Erm... No options available for 997 - WTF??

OK, forget RUF and focus on some engine mods. Next stop DMS for maybe some fancy electronics. Erm... no options available for 997 - WTF again??

Hello?? Anybody home?? The 997 has been out for nearly two years now..!!

Guess it'll have to be some lairy Gemballa wheels then...

Seriously, the budget is approx 10 - 15k to make a stock 997 stand out from the crowd and a couple of horsepower more would be nice without OPC bitching about warranties etc. So, suggestions?!

Cheers.

RUF do have a host of options for 997's - we were there in Feb on the MiniHoon and Marc was trying to relieve me of a fair sum - for around 35k you can get a 997C2S pretty close to an RT12 - well some darned impressive engine upgrades with their Kompressor and all the body kit, wheels, small mirrors, interior bits etc etc

others who post here know the folks at RUF well so I'm sure they will be along to add more

Thought that must be the case but then RUF need to update their website... Go to online shop and there are no options at all for 997s... Poor effort.

The best option for you would be to sell your present car privatly to return you the most money and buy a 997 GT3(white red or bright orange would be my choice!)I feel the same way about my 997(esp with it being a silver one),but I like Porsche, need a 2+2 seat configuration for the littl'ns and also must have convertible(like to feel the wind in whats left of my hair!)

Jeb - I know where you're coming from.

This might help and your 997S will look great down at the Marina.

get an OPC to add the GT3 aerokit from Tequipment brochure? about £4.5k

then with your budget I would also get the Porsche powerkit so it goes better (and sounds better as it includes the must-have sports exhaust)

money spent, job done

Hi

Dms do upgrades for the 997.... had 1 done about 5 months ago.

You could start with some 20" techart wheels and kit like this car we have for sale now...

Upgrade to a GT3, preferably in white or orange. Great car with a bit more limited availability should do the trick for you, I guess. Modding a 997S will just leave you with a 997S plus higher depreciation when selling on...

you could get Gemballa Avalanche mods for it?

only problem is you would need to get them from Marco at Gemballa Germany.

I mean, what is there not to like about this?

How long have you got DG ? Hideous rear spoiler, awkward loking (IMO) rear bumper, CGT wannabe exhaust, pointless door/rear wing "vents", tacky sideskirts, not to mention the naff graphics. But apart from that really rather nice ................

If you want power upgrades and some one to provide some sound advice give Ray West a call -
www.west-tuning.co.uk/
He's done some great cars and Rob at DMS used to work for him AFAIK.

Thanks for all the replies.

Ideally would like to keep my 997 and put some mods on it rather than buying a GT3 or similar. Kinda like the thought of having something truly 'unique'. I know that every penny in mods is just down the drain in terms of resale but I'm thinking of keeping the car for a few years.

Also not too interested about sticking a Porsche bodykit on the car (just my opinion but kinda makes the car 'fake'). Also the X51 powerkit is something like £8k for another 30-40bhp which sounds a bit steep to me (already have PSE fitted).

Sportsandclassics - no offence but those 20in wheels look a bit 'gangsta' to me - would look cool on a blinged out Escalade but prob not on my 997 - like the subtle wing though.

Ducati - was seriously looking at the Gemballa website and think the Carrera GT 3.8l conversion is very tempting. No idea how to post pics but its the black one with silver wheels. Now imagine that in silver with black wheels with a big Gemballa written down the side in black... yum

In terms of engine mods I'm not looking for a 600bhp monster as I want to be able to use the car daily but another 75-100bhp would be nice. Any suggestions?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but just how close to the Rt12 ? Thinking about it........since a run in with an RS4 Cosworth and an S6 showed little performance advantage.

I can't see pictures, but I suspect quite a lot. It's one thing to have a slightly anonymous 997, but another to have it done up like a 10 dollar hooker that's just been decorated for Christmas.

having pokedf around I thought the 997 rt12 looked fairly low key...... even the noble-looking spoiler on the back isn't too bad.

I'm more after the engine upgrade than the copycat cosmetics - if I need body / wheels / brakes to cope with extra power, then so be it, but IM('umble)O the S wheels are the nicest

What a car the 997s is, I have one as my courtesy car. Love it in everyway bar the exhaust but a PSE would change that. Just did 130 miles in it. Great fun.
