I drive using the steering wheel usually on roads. Can anyone give me a rough ball figure? Im not a maniac driver but I do expect to thrash it now and again mainly on motorways.
thanks.
Are you looking for a Cayman or Cayman S? If it's the former then the tyres may last indefinatley or until they perish if you live in a sunny climate as there is so little power to push them!
Seriously though, like almost all RWD Porsches, the rears will wear at almost twice the rate of the fronts. Even if you buy new, you are not able to specify the tyres that will be fitted at the factory as there are normally two or three choices and these are allocated at random. Some people will say that Michelins last longer than Pirellis but it really is down to driving style (track action or not), tyre pressures, ambient temperatures, and crucially wheel alignment.
I assume that you are asking this question because you (like me) are conscious that if you 'take care of the pennies, the pounds will look after themselves'. If so then resit the larger wheel options as smaller tyres are of course cheaper.
P.S. I actually like the look of the base Cayman on 17's! I think the deeper sidewalls actually give it a tiny bit of the Macca F1 look!

Upto 10,000 miles out of the rears and upto 20,000 miles out of the fronts but it completely depends on how you drive.
The worst i've seen, on a Boxster is 5,000 miles for a set !

A friend scrubbed through his first set in 3,000 miles! Admittedly his is an 'S' and he does a lot of track days.

my Box Srears were going around 17k - no tracks mix of city/a road, spirtied driving but no traffic light olympics
fronts would probably have lasted to 25k or more
I assume £150 per corner as rule of thumb

Guys, considering purchasing a Cayman. What mileage do you think I'll get from a set of tyres? Also any idea of costs?
About 10,000 tracked, 20,000 "normal". As for costs I would say about a shade under £1,000 for all 4 (that's what I've budgeted for).
The tyres are "special" Porsche tyres so the price is a little steeper.
I have the 19" wheels and the tyres are more on that than with the standard 17s.
Hope that helps.
Ben
PS. Are you thinking of a Cayman or Cayman S?

Ben, its a Cayman I'm looking at and sticking with the 17". I’ve had previous cars with “big wheels” but have found the ride is often compromised on long distance journeys that I do a lot of.
I would love to go for the "S" but a new baby girl arrival and a whopping mortgage has forced me to tighten the purse strings.
So far I understand that I’ll get circa 10k from rears and 20k from fronts. I‘ve been quoted circa £126 for front replacements and £146 for rears. This doesn’t sound too bad.
Any other contributions are greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Francis.

Francis,
Out of interest, why are you buying (thinking of buying!) the Cayman (non-S)?
I really don't mean to imply anything about your purchase decision, nor suggest anything else (although there are a lot of cynical buggers on here who will
), but what were you looking for in a sports car, what did you compare it to, why did the Cayman come out on top and why not 'S'?
I'm wondering if it's better than anything else of a similar price range? You loved the concept? Loved the brand? Tested one and it was far better than the competition? Etc...
For me (in 1 sentence!), I loved the Porsche brand, had to be a new car, I didn't want the Boxster due to similarities with my then current car and wasn't prepared to spend as much as a new 997 cost.
Interested in what's guiding you down the line.
Cheers,
Ben
PS. Absolutely love mine and it comes with a huge thumbs up!
PPS. Ignore everything 'KayC' says!

Ben, I just love the design of the car and also the Porsche brand. It’s as simple as that.
I'm not a serious driver i.e. track racer although I do circa 25k per annum mainly motorway driving. Therefore the car is more than acceptable to me where its speed is concerned. I’ve read many reviews and many are very favourable.
I've looked at and previously BMWs, Merc & Audi’s but the Porsche tops it for me. I also do not want to spend circa £60k on any car. I can’t justify it when I have bigger investment opportunities than will return good dividends.
Thanks,
Francis.
