Hello!

Newbie here!

My hubby bought a 996 through an add off here about 5 weeks ago. We
need to get the drivers side strut done, as it makes a fair bit of a knocking sound if you go over a bumpy lane (The OPC have also confirmed it needs changing).

So we need to find a Porsche Specialist in or around Northamptonshire. The OPC have told us they will change them both at the same time, and have quoted us around £1k to do this, but the other strut was changed not so long ago. The guy we bought it from in Nottingham got a quote off his specialist and was quoted £330 (a far better price, i think you'll agree!)

Any help would be greatly received!

Or Andy Fearns, who used to work there (and who gets a name check in this month's Evo as he's looking after Richard Meaden's 964RS)... 07730 989 895.

Or try Autobahn in Coventry. Father inlaw's 996 was very well looked after by them.

We went to Autobahn to look for a car, and they blatently ignored us for at least 30 minutes, before fobbing us off with some heap they thought would be of interest.

I wouldn't go back there ever again.

Autobahn don't actually do the servicing/repair work themselves though - they have an affiliated specialist, PCT, next door. MIght be worth doing a search to see whether there are any posts about PCT before you discount them completely.

Just to echo that - Autobahn and PCT share a site, but they are not the same company AFAIK - Autobahn Sales, PCT maintenance.

I can highly reccommend PCT for service - they've done a few things on mine, and have been brilliant every time. They're my first choice for anything Pork related I can't do myself.

Try Templeton's in Rushden. They are not Porsche specialists, but regularly work on them and other exotica such as Ferrari. They only charge £40 per hour and they serviced my neighbours 996 last month and he was very happy. I used them to service my 3.2 and they did a fantastic job replacing the oil retrun pipes on my 964. They are replacing my clutch on my 993 next week and have quoted about £320 plus VAT (I'm supplyng the parts courtesy of eBay!). Their number is 01933 355435.
