Mate has a 2 year old TT with low miles, he wants more power.

What are his options?

Not more power admittedly - but best performance upgrade would be to chop it in for a GT3....................

Mine has DMS ecu and uprated diverter valves at the mo and it's a gem pulls like you would not belive and no louder than a standard car so if you want more power without the extra noise go for that. i am however fitting a fabspeed exhaust with the race 100 cell cat's at the weekend so i'll have over 500 bhp and the noise to match because i'm not to keen on the noise of the standard car 2 optios for you though. Both ways i bet you look like this yikes evey time you put your foot down and like this for the next 2 hr's

I've heard the odd one blowing up, I believe its a manufacturing flaw or one of those american GT3000 on the stock internals and even so the rods bend first giving you clear sign they're packing but if they do and out of warranty you're looking at a £25000 bill (yes twenty five thousand POUNDS)...

Alot has been written about this (at least I did...) do a search on 996 tt or 996 Turbo or my previous posts.

The stock internals are good for about 600bhp Max, anything above this starts to become serious work (strengthening)

At the moment i'm roughly around 560/570 with a stage 4 set up, but when I have my custom intercoolers and possibly plenum about to be installed should be seeing around 590ish mark, after this that's me! finished with mods, otherwise general street drivability goes out the window.

if you have k16 turbos it's wise not to go over 500 bhp as they can't push over 1 bar reliably.

go for a chip, exhaust, diverter valves and suspension.

if you want more than 500bhp look at changing to bigger turbos, if you already have k24's then 600 bhp here you come.

Car still under warranty, though I guess the mods may invalidate the warranty?

Re the type of Turbo fitted, did they fit the different Turbos on different MY cars or what?
