Help!!!

I am finding it hard to check to oil level on the dip stick. I have the car running upto temp when checking, like you should do, car is also on level ground. I can see spots of oil dotted up the dip stick but not getting a proper reading.

Any advise please.

Thanks
Ian

It is difficult to see the oil, you need to hold it up to the light and move it around until you see it properly.

I owned a 964 for 4 years and checked the dipstick exactly once, to confirm that it agreed with the gauge on the dashboard.

I never use the dip either, the gauge works fine, (its just a bit difficult to spell..)

Level ground, at idle (popping into neutral for 5 seconds whilst driving along a flat road works fine). Make sure its warmed up enough to have opened the oilcooler circuit (temp has gone up and settled down again at the start of the journey).

Cars used to have petrol dipsticks y'know..surprising that oil dipsticks aren't a thing of the past, too.

Are you sure the oil level is not below the bottom of the dipstick ...

When I check mine I hold it up to the light and can see where it is OK. It's a good idea to do it in good light.

I would have thought that if oil is just dotted up the dipstick and you have followed the instructions, there is a good chance it needs some oil!

What does your oild gauge say when at standstill?

The 997s don't have oil dipsticks!
