hi guys,

have found a 996 turbo that on paper looks 99% of what i'm after. mileage is slightly higher then i wanted but not an issue. the only thing it lacks is rear park assist but i was told it can be retro fitted? anyone know the cost involved?

the car is at opc cambridge. i know it's impossible to give accurate opinions / views without seeing the car. i intend to arrange a test drive but would really like all your views plus if anyone knows the car /seen the car?

i can't find a way of linking to the actual car but it's on page 2 of their centre stock towatds the bottom

link to cambridge's stock:
www.porsche.com/all/uk/?cambridge

thanks in advance.

Rick

I personally wouldn't bother with rear park assist unless it's relatively inexpensive to retro fit (unlikely at OPC ?). Had it on my beemer not got it on my 996. Can't say that I miss it. 996 shorter arse end than BMW and don't really need it !

I've always hated how the parking sensors look on the back of a 911. Like boils on a pretty girl's bum. The 911 isn't so difficult to park in any event, and if you're piloting a near-as-damnit 200 mph car, advertising that you need help to park it is perhaps a bit gay. Don't bother with it unless you have a tiny garage or something, and really need it.

I can fully relate to this had it on all last cars & still on misses, so yes I do forget to look some times, lucky so far.

OPC system looks ugly, there is a retro fit system non porsche that sits behind bumper with no holes required, it scans through the bumper???????? don't know who but it does.

there was a thread on here a few months back that detailed it.

amazingly it is easy for car makers to fit park assist invisibly behind bumpers. The reason why your lovely arse has to have 4 boils on it is because some marketing pillocks think that if people pay for the option they want to see it / show the gadget to others

rick - only downside for me on that car is it is 02 rather than 52 and therefore has the naff looking PCM1 which has a bloody cassette player, also unlike PCM2 the phone module is a big SM and won't work with Orange/T Mobile frequencies. Also I find the handsets a bit naff and 80s. Other than that looks nice but knock it down to 55k max

thanks for that. as i'm still a newbie i knew there was a difference between the pcm1 and 2 but did not know about the other bits. I have asked the salesguy who booked the test drive to come back to me with a better price. if they are not willing to budge on price then i don't think its great value for money but if they can do a deal then i'm a serious buyer.

thanks again.
