What are the relative reliability problems with the 996, I have just sold my 993 and was going to buy a 996 but have been told that it is more unreliable compared to the air cooled 993, any comments would be very helpful

I have owned three 996's -

A standard C2 3.4 litre Cabriolet pre-facelift - It had the RMS issue and was fixed under warranty - I covered 30k miles in 2 years of ownership.
A standard C2 3.6 litre Coupe - No faults whatsoever, I covered 24k miles in 18 months of ownership

A 996TT X50 - Bought with 2.3k miles and sold with 8k miles after 11 months of ownership - no faults whatsoever.

So, in my opinion/experience they are very reliable.

Just keep the cars properley maintained and they serve well - and always have a warranty on the car.

Ditto. Have had a 996 C2, 996 C4S & a 996TT, all over the space of 4 years & only thing that went wrong was RMS on the C4S (fixed under warranty)

Sure others will have horror stories !

R.

PS : Also had a Boxster S before the C2 for 18 months & that never went wrong either !

Good god - you would have made less of an impact with that statement by invading Poland!

Of course 996's are better than 993's in every respect. you dont have to use brasso, your choice of footware is relaxed and the sun has a chance to tan your chin

996 has no reliability problems whatsoever and dont let anyone tell you anything to the contry

I must agree with everyone else here, I have a 996 and I have never had any problems with the vehicle in anyway what so ever, one of the most reliable cars I have owned, and to add to this I must say it is good on fuel compared to all other 911 models.

Had two 993s and two 996s - 3.4 and 3.6. Both excellent with no problems, but the 3.6 is better, and it's definitely worth keeping the approved extended warranty renewed.

PS You'll also need the PSE

If you want more of a statement regarding 996 engines then speak with Autofarm, who offer numerous services one of which specifically deals with re-building the wreckage of a 996 engine!!!

I suggest you ask this question on another 911 forum if you want a balanced opinion, as you will find that it is the blind leading the blind on here!

My 996 is really starting to p1ss me off now ..

My windscreen wipers are beginning to streak a little

911 drivers are always going to talk up their current drive , but the fact remains that I've not heard any of the 996 drivers that are regular contributors on this forum complain about reliability issues .. Personally I've just done a years 996 motoring , trouble free.

except for them dang wipers

The rubber on the rear wiper blade came away yesterday, I'm started to get a bit censored off with this car.
