Hi all,

I've got the offer of swapping my TD6 Range Rover for a Cayenne S. Quite like it, but think LPG would make it somewhat easier to justify.
Anybody done this, and if so any drawback. I have previously had a 7 Series with LPG and accept that power can be 5% down, but after a deisel think i can live with this.

Really concerned about the engine, and is their a history of them runningok on LPG

Cheers

I read in Autocar a few weeks ago that poor conversions can lead to damaged engines, even fires!

I guess you might want to try researching the reputable firms who do conversions and then phone them up.

I have a mate who runs his Rangey on gas. The cost works out the equivalent of 40+ mpg and there is no perceptable loss of performance. His was done by a company in the Bristol area, I forget their name.

I would guess you could kiss good bye to the Porsche warranty; on a vehicle as expensive and complex to repair as a late model Porsche you might to think twice.

I think the biggest problem with LPG conversions is the space occupied by the gas tank.

Is it possible to run a petrol engine on bi-fuels? i.e. gas for the high consumption mileage and then switch to petrol for motorway cruising?

Alternatively, if you really need a 2 tonne 4x4, consider an ML or X5 diesel - Mercedes and BMW build terrific, fast (for day to day road use), smooth, fuel efficient diesel engines.
