MY CHEEKY THRUXTON VISIT - FREE TRACK TIME!
Discussion
Hello chums
Today I mostly took Mrs V996 for a trip to see birds of prey at a place near Thruxton circuit. Lovely time had by all.
On the way home I decided to go for a nosey at Thruxton circuit.
So off we went, through the front gate (open) and through to the paddock and scrutineer area (open!!) Still further we drove into the area behind the pit garages (open!!!!!!) and then on and on through to the pit area itself (open and unmanned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Imagine my surprise and delight as I noticed the entrance to the circuit itself was open and unmanned............
I shall leave the rest to your imagination dear friends...........

Back in the 60's Cadwell Park was owned by a small corporation and didn't have the same level of security in place as it does today. My Dad used to live nearby and knew of the caretaker and where he was / when he went away. Him and his mates used to get many hours of free track time by going through a hole in the fence.
The caretaker came back early one day and purposely parked his van just after the crest on 'the mountain'. Apparently coming over the top was a real brown trouser moment, but they got away with it. That incident put them off sneaking in... for about a week!

Great fun!
But isn't it always dangerous to tell the public about such 'exclusives' as the rest of us will all try it, or worse still the authorities will catch on?

Well. I doubt very much that on most days one would find the gate to the circuit "open". Must have been a mistake. I doubt the authorities would mind very much - the circuit owners probably wouldn't be too pleased, though!
