Are they really that good? When I bought mine from, an OPC 2 months back I the first thing I noticed when driving was that the brakes where not as good as my Honda s2000's that I was px'ing. Looking at them they look brand new. Discs , calipers so I assume pads would be too and after a 1000 miles they are getting better but still nothing like I hear people raving about on here. In fact when I drove my beater yesterday (pug205)even they feel better. Maybe I am using them wrong, the Porsche brakes are not the sort of brakes you just touch you have to push your foot down hard. is that right?

Find a decent road and give them a good hammering to burn off the clag and corrosion on the discs. These cars need to be given a good pasting once in a while to leep this in perfect nick.
If that doesn't work then new pads may fix it - I just got mine replaced yesterday and they were good before, but they are awesome now!!
hi think its just that your other cars have had more sensitive over servod brakes the 2 996,s i,ve had both have this feel to other cars but thats for feel and feed back i,m sure your porka will massively out break these other cars just press them as hard as you need think you,ll be suprised. pop out find a "private road"
do 100 mph hit the brakes hard as you can see just how fast you stop

No corrosion the discs are all new :-)

You do need to get 'acclimatized' to them.
The ability to modulate the brakes and the 'feel' means initial pedal travel does little, where in most other cars your nose would be pressed against the windscreen.
Give them some serious pressure and you'll be impressed.

100% correct.
Cheers, thats what it must be, the servo. I must admit I have slammed them before and you can feel the abs through your feet kicking in.

The brakes are less "over servoed" than modern boxes - give them a damn good hard depression and hold on to your liver

Like they all said, they do need a proper press but when you do, boy do they slow you down Vesuvius 996 said:

Once you get used to them you shouldn't need the ABS, they have that much feel you can feather the ABS point and kick it on/off at will.
First cold stop of the day can be 'interesting' occasionally though.
Why would you feather the abs....?
You press it as hard as you can and let the ABS do its job....whats the point can you pump the pedal more than 15 times a second ?
and yes thong is right the servos can fill with water but normally the brakes come on by them self when you slightly press the pedal it carrys on to the floor...very strange sensation.
In my opinion the brakes on most porsches are not over impressive..my thoughts are that massive engine and gearbox just tries to throw its self through the body into the front luggage compartment...there is no weight over the front of the car so it easily locks up and abs cuts in....if you drove a mercedes-benz it would put you through the windscreen im not interested in feeling whats going on if you want that take the servo off....if its got a servo then i want it to assist in a big way and stop me...
Obviously this is all in my opinion...

The point I'm making is that the Porsche brakes have so much feel you can hold at the point where the wheels would be locking up and know exactly what's going on. Some cars that are over servo'd just aren't as much fun.
Sure, it's nice to know the ABS is there for an emergency but when you're braking hard for fun Porsche brakes are the mutts nuts.
