Any nice examples of these floating around anywhere for sale? I've spotted the Midnight Blue 993 RS Comfort in the classifieds, but that particular car does seem somewhat optimistically priced (to me at any rate). Anyone know anything about the red 'ex-Phillip Taysom' RS being offered? Who's Mr. Taysom when he's at home? Does he take extra good care of his cars?

Any pointers on this would be appreciated, as I desperately need to Zymol something .

Great - thamks for the link. I reckon that red car might not be beyond salvation despite the fact that most of its 40,000-odd miles were on track, but I'd have to go see it/drive it. I'll wait a bit to see if anyone knows of any alternative 993 RSs out there before doing anything rash. What's the story with the Riviera Blue car at Outwood? There's another Riviera one in Germany with ultra-low mileage, but the seller wants offers over 75k - is it just me, or is that nuts? I'm not sure where 993RS pricing is these days.

I've driven most 911s, but despite having owned a couple of 993s, I've never tried an RS. I remember being on the track with one at the Oschersleben a few years back, and watching from behind the car as it drifted beautifully from apex to apex like poetry in motion. It also seemed capable of holding variable angles of oversteer for ridiculous amounts of time. I was in a Caterham SLR at the time, so would watch this performance until I got bored with it, and then blast past. Which brings me to the next question - will a 993 RS feel desperately slow realtive to a GT3? Is it even as fast as a 964 RS (one of which I've also owned)?

BTW - LHD/RHD - it's all the same to me.

Loach, if you are in Germany, it probably makes sense to check thonas schmits site www.germansportscars.de he has 9/64/93/96 RS & Gt3.

993RS isn't too bad on track to be fair

Do a search of the threads. The was a 993 RS topic about 6 months ago which mentioned which particular cars on the market had an 'interesting' history.

On track pretty much identical, on road 993 much more usable.

Cheers. I've spoken to Herr Schmitz and he's going to have a look around to see what mught suit me. We'll see what he comes up with - it has to be as quick as hot snot, but not be beyond a bit of brass polish now and again. My situation is getting really complicated - I wanted a new Defender this year, tuned and prepped by JE Engineering. Naturally, there's a new model out imminently, so I'm not sure when I'll be getting a Defender now, or when JE will have a kit ready for it - last time I spoke to JE, they hadn't a clue what they were doing. I got an Exige S this year, and was enthralled by how fast it goes, but peeved by how badly it stops - so that's going now, and may be replaced by a new super-Exige that Lotus may or may not build at some point next year. If they do build it, and it looks overpriced for its performance, then it'll be back to Caterham for me. I'm collecting a MINI GP next week that I organised for the GF - she hates the car with a passsion that would put Don Juan in the shade in the passion stakes, so I guess I'll drive that for a bit. Meantime, I've nothing suitable for the long journeys I have to regularly make, so there are about 20 cars vying for my attention on that one. I'm still on the never ending hunt for a good '74 CSL, and may have to move quickly if one comes along, and I've just spotted a nice low mileage M6 (late '80s) that may be too good not to buy.

This would all be fantastic if I could afford it. Sometimes, loving cars can be a real pain in the arse.

Loach, 993Rs is not that quick in standard 300bhp form..the good news is that the suspension and brakes are way ahead of the game.....if you do find one with a tuned lump and there are many it should suit your requirements.

I like the ExigeS,,,a great car, but when I drove one round Lotus track at hethel, i eally felt I would be quicker in the RS......if you try one for an extended drive, I doubt you will regret the change.

I can relate to how you felt about the Exige S - it's sadly a bit of an auld fat arse at 930 kilos (945 if you go for the obligatory A/C). Put 90 (trim....well...pretty trim) kilos of me in there, and it's really fighting the good fight with only 220 BHP. I suspect that I'll prefer the 964 RS. I owned one briefly, but never got a chance to track it. But I lurve how the 993 RS looks. Plus, I've had a fair bit of track time in 993s, so feel I'll be going with a known quantity. I really amn't that fussy, and my choice will largely be determined by how the daily struggle is running at the time of purchase between the half of me that wants to zymol a car and give it the odd kiss when no-one's around, and the other half that gets insanely peed off when I'm hammering it and someone in a tatty (but fighting fit) piece of kit is shining my rear bumper. Of course a GT3 would be nice, but there's something appealing about the simplicity of the older cars - if I decided to go for a GT3, I'd end up going for the RS out of all the variants, and would no doubt then be guilt ridden that I hadn't been more sensible in going for one of the rarer and more covetable earlier cars. It's nice not to have to worry about residuals when you're buying something that's strictly a toy.

Edit - no doubt the GT3 RS is probably rarer than either of the older RS models, but you know what I mean - there are about 20 yummy GT3 RSes on the market at the moment.
