1st experience in Rain - oh and of OPC...
Discussion
Well, today was a day for firsts...
First time driving the 911 in the rain - to the OPC for the lock to be looked at.
Taking it easy - or rather, just driving normally, absolutley no problems - the only downside the wiper seemed to blur the screen on the up wipe, while being fine on the down - something a new blade will probably cure.
Car was surefooted, and even in the very heavy rain and spray, performed without a hitch.
Onto the OPC, they diagnosed a faulty door catch - surprise surprise - not covered under OPC extended warranty. It ended up costing me 250 quid - I had the OPC do it simply because I was there, they had quoted 100 quid for the labour, and after speaking to an indy, who reckoned on 1 hour @ 50/hour labour to take the door off, I wouldn't have saved much. Considering it took them 3 hours as they replaced the membrane, fitted a new speaker loom and seals I'm not feeling too striken.
I was slightly irritated when i got back in and the heater/stereo was all setup differently, I figured they must have disconnected the battery to do the work, and of course took the car out for a test spin before handing it back.
While I was waiting, a salesman offered me a drive in the 997 (Since i was having a nosey), and even though I said i had just bought the 996, and couldnt afford one even if i wanted to, he simply said dont worry, its quiet and saves you being sat bored.
Nice car - although if felt more of a 'normal car' than my 996 - much lighter and easier to drive, mind you I didnt give it too much stick since it was still raining, but I certainly didnt regret getting back into my 996.
By the time i was on home ground, it had stopped raining, although the ground was still wet, and i managed to get the traction kicking in in 4th! i really must watch that right foot!
All in all, the day was okay. Could've been better (or cheaper) but I have no cause for complaint, and the 996 performed fantastically in the wet - so i have no concerns there anymore.
And best of all - i can head off for work, safe in the knowledge I will actually be able to get into my car when i get back!

So Fidgets - exactly how much have you spent on petrol so far?
*cough* I'm not counting, too frightened *cough*
Oh, and if my posts of happiness and satsifaction are bringing the forum into disrepute - you just have to say and i'll stop

Don't worry your happiness will soon change to despair when somthing large goes wrong.......Oh sorry I forgot you don't have a 993 - so you will always be happy

Did you into Swindon OPC fidgits?
They are very good there and will give you a test drive in anything you want. If you go into the Service Dept ask for Ian he is brilliant. So far in 7 weeks I haven't yet washed my car as they have done it for me every time I go in (Even when I went last week - see below)
The point you make about the 997 is right. I drove a £90K Carerra 4S last week on the Test Drive Plus and it blew a lifes ambition out of the window in less than 2 hours. It was a great car, but it didn't do it for me, hence I think I said elswhere on here I think I need a Boxster with a big engine.

Hi Catherine - yes it was Swindon.
Very nice people there (checked 2 or 3 times about the warranty thing, and apologised that it wasnt covered), as for the test drive, well they practically dragged me out on it - saying "its fine, come give it a go, why not"..
They didnt wash the car, but then i was waiting, so perhaps that was why.

Theres Steve Bull in Devizes - but he quoted me 50/hour - with reckoning 1 hour to get the panel off and diagnose the fault - so it probably wouldnt have been any cheaper through him.
As it was, i was happy with Swindon, and I might of got it done under the warranty. Plus they even had nice chocolates with the coffee

Chocolates!!!!!! Damn Ive never seen those. I do admitedly have my fair share of coke when I go in there. Where is the guy in Devizes? Ive never seen or heard of him?
yeah, they had eclairs next to the TV, and twix/yorkie's etc next to the coffee machine...
not good for the waistline though
I think a couple of people on hear reccomended Steve Bull - he's on Hopton Insdutrial Estate - was nice the first time i spoke to him, less so when i asked about the door though..

Well may see you guys in the Swindon OPC sometime!
I am picking up my 996 C2 today/tomorrow (been waiting a week!) and all getting a bit painful now!!
Have been speaking to Nick about getting a Sports Exhaust (not sure if its worth it or not??) and you guys are right they seem like a nice bunch down there.

It's worth every single penny. Simply THE best option on the 996.
Ask for their best possible price (without the switch). I think they will do it for around £1350.
What is all this fuss about the PSE ? I am yet to hear one but are they really that good? I cant stand drone and I had that on my last HKS exhaust on my Honda. Thats not good. So it the PSE that good that I will want one ?
