Newbie rant.........my first week with the 996 C2
Discussion
Hi folks, I've been reading the posts on the form with much enthusiasm since purchasing my first porker last week. I'm now the proud owner of a 996C2 03 plate, I've always wanted a 911 since being very young and I've been impressed on how long the design has endured.
Picked her up last Friday from JC600 in Leeds after her an annual service and two new front tyres that the previous owner agreed to sorting out. He even renewed all wheel nuts, which cost a massive £60 a corner, he he, glad I didn't have to foot that bill.
Anyways I brought her home, very impressed with the car so far, not really given it much toe as yet as I'm not used to driving a rear wheel drive motor. However it seems very sure footed, planted even. The build quality is awesome, the best I've seen. I've owned Audi's in the past mainly. I gave her a good clean on Sunday and is now looking like new.
I'm not that impressed with the stereo but I gotta say that that's all I can complain about, one speaker in the dash not working.
I previously had an Audi A4 Avant 05, I decided to sell and buy the Porsche for evenings and weekends and A.N other motor TBC for nailing up and down the motorway.
It's finally good to be part of the crew..

My 996 has got an Alpine head unit fitted - so what have hardly listened to it since I got the car a couple of months ago. Muuch prefer listening to the engine - music to your ears !
What is all this fuss about the PSE ? I am yet to hear one but are they really that good? I cant stand drone and I had that on my last HKS exhaust on my Honda. Thats not good. So it the PSE that good that I will want one ?

You're repeating yourself, Jamie - I think the HKS must have damaged your hearing!
Lee Field raves about the PSE on his 996 C4S. Having heard it at a meet recently, it DID sound very nice. Rather expensive to have to retrofitted though, I gather - especially if you want the switchable version.

Woogie - Go to an OPC and ask to hear the PSE, you will be not be dissapointed! It even has a button to turn the sound down.(Most pointless button award surely!)
My Christmas list starts with PSE.......
2 months into the 996 C2 crew and loving it. Just wish the drive to work wasn't on the M4!

PSE is the one Porsche must-have option.
I had one fitted to my C4S about 750 miles ago and absolutely LOVE it, the sound is even better now its bedded in too.
Even though we know it doesn't release anymore BHP it absolutely transforms the car, altering the way you drive it, and unfortunately because of this the fuel bills have rocketed (and I don't care either !!!)
About £1400 fitted by an independant without the electrics, switch or vacuum thingy connection. My OPC wouldn't fit PSE without the above and quoted at around £2000.
Still worth every single penny IMHO
Jamie - where are you based mate? If you are anywhere in the North Essex/Suffolk area give me a shout - I would happily do a 3am drive past of your home to give you the full PSE effect
As I have said before more than once - the PSE is fantastic. Dont bother with the electrics if you are retro fitting you will never use them and there is no drone at all. Every Porsche deserves to have one of these fitted.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can get run slot at the rolling road day next weekend to see if the PSE does liberate extra BHP
I am in essex tomorrow if you wanna meet up?

Do it! Do it! Do it!
It doesn't just transform your car, it makes life a more rewarding experience.
I've just had the electrics finished in mine and it's a really cool feature to be able to turn the sound down for early morning reversing out of the garage. I actually felt like a considerate Porsche owner for about two days. Then I just removed the relay.......
