parked up with the revs up to 3000rpm there is a vibration through my car, i first noticed it when slowing down at speed to around the 3200rpm it would vibrate then dissapear below 3000 rpm. I thought it was the heat covers round the exhaust having tightened all of them up this vibration is still present!!! Does anyone have any idea what this could be or has anyone came across it before???? i've just bought the car and im worried as i dont want to be pulling out lumps of money to repair it.

How bad is this vibration... ?

what is it like when you are driving .....?

Does it make a difference if you press the clutch if its a manual..

is it 2.5...2.7....3.2 ?

itz a 2004 04 2.7 so the last of the 986, when stationery if i take it up to 3000rpm then dip the clutch the vibration does seem to go away..itz not a really severe vibration but its also not a very light vibration if that makes sense haha

Sounds like a clutch/flywheel vibration but i have had this with a few boxster S cars at around 3000rpm....just checked another 1 and that seems to do the same around 3500rpm....3.2L i have another 2.7 coming in on thursday for a clutch so i will check that one.

The Porsche has a dual mass fly wheel? I have heard of this problem before, the dual mass fly wheel acts as a sort of shock absorber for your drive train to protect the gearbox etc under hard acceleration. From a standing start for instance. I think this is not a major problem and many Porsches have this anomaly. However have a mechanic take a look just in case. Note this type of fly wheel was and is ( I Think) used on heavy goods vehicles to take the strain off the drive under load.
Do Ferrari’s have this system?

Yes it was the flywheel/clutch that was causing the vibration on the boxster today...

And yes ferraris run this flywheel too..
