intermitent fault with 964 speedo
Discussion
Not sure of the problem but if it is a fault with the gauge rather than wiring then these guys can help to repair it...

Don't ask me to explain why, but I'd put money on there being a problem with the connections to the analogue clock (the thing that shows the time of day). There are a number of connections at the back of the clock which suffer from dry joints over time and need to be re-soldered. The bad connections affect a lot of functions including the battery charge circuit and the spoiler (which is connected to the speedo).
I suffered the non-working speedo problem from time to time - until I resoldered the clock connection. The problem has never occurred again.
To solve the problem you need to pull the clock from the dash, unsolder a couple of connections on the back of the PCB and undo a couple of screws to allow you to remove the PCB from the back of the clock. There are (I think) 12 pins arranged in a circle which need to be re-soldered on the inside of the PCB. It takes about 10-15 minutes - and is a lot cheaper than buying a new clock!!
