Reading the 996tt buyers guide in 911&PW, they say "Originally they wore Pirelli P-Zeros, although Bridgestones have a more predictable break-away and thus inspire confidence, while Continentals provide more effective rim protection."

I notice that they didn't comment on the Pirelli's characteristics and didn't even mention the Michelins but based on their commnet, I'm tempted to switch from Pirelli to Bridgestone.

Are there any 996tt drivers out there that have tried more than one brand and can recommend a tyre for its grip over another brand. My tyre choice would be based on the following (in order of importance):
1) Wet weather grip
2) Dry weather grip
3) Rim protection
4) Wear

I've gone from pirellis to bridgestone - overall grip is slightly higher on the bridge - certainly in the wet. Noise is also a lot lower on the bridge than the pirelli especially when worn.

Oh, the bridgestones were a little cheaper too

Which Bridgestones are you considering?

I've always had Pzeros, but am thinking of changing soon. Was planning Michelin PS2s, but these are not officially certified for the 996tt, so would be interested in comments on the other choices.

I'm not sure. Aceparts, which did you go for?

Does anyone think I would see the same improvements in grip in a 996tt that Aceparts has seen in a 993tt? ...or do you think that the improvements are because they are what the 993tt car was originally fitted with?

I've heard very mixed reports about S02a. Unfortunately we don't seem to have much choice in OEM tyres - I am seriously considering Michelin PS2, even though they are not OEM. The PS2 is great on more recent models...
