Having owned two 993's - a p reg in arena red which was nice and a L reg in polar silver with an aero kit which was even nicer.....

Only problem i had was that they werent that quick, well they are fast but not really by todays standards. Having owned an array of 'fast cars' all german, a 2001 rs4 audi which was 400bhp and monsterous not agile like a porshce but i tell you what they aint as fat and lardy as some would lead you to belive! (usually people who havent even driven them) My rs4 had the gmbh suspension from factory and handled pretty good- my mate in his vx220 turbo also remapped could not get much more the a few car lengths around the twistys/islands duels we had , and hes a dab hand behind the wheel too.(i was driving like a loon tho, a set of conact sport contys destroyed in less than 2000miles...) The rs4 isnt the only rapid motor ive had, also an array of highly modded Golfs (i hear you laugh but its my game vw/audi's - i own a well known specialists/tuner in the midlands) and lets say they have all been fine handling and very quick - 300hp vr6 supercharged golf, mk1s with g60 200hp power, currentley my loon mobiles ares3 audi with a genuine 300hp , mk2 4wd Golf with 330hp, quiaffe 6 speed straight cut box, 1.8t engine with lots of bits, fast is an understament and a Touareg which is were i come back to the point - the Touareg has possible over lived its stay with me and its time to change - imstruggling to resist a Porsche for much longer...

But.

I need something which will keep me interested, and to be blunt a normal 993/996 wont. They may handle better and be more rewarding than my current transport (might not handle better than some mk1 golfs let me say) and have more character / flashness but at the end of they day i need the sensation of speed to keep me awake. Enter either a Gt3 or a 996 turbo, budget runs close to 50k, i dont wanna finance the car i want to own it so 50k at a push is the limit.

Which is gonna make me feel the sensation of speed better, and please some one tell me where people get their valuation figures from, yes its a Porsche, yes it was dear when it was new but surely there is a uniform trend to pricing. I see 2000 model 996 turbos from 40k all the way to 50plus k all with varying mileages etc etc. Surely if its 2000, has in region of 50000 miles and is in good condition its worth xyz>? Same goes for Gt3, i hear people say theyre Dogs if they are cheap - but can such a high value car with such low miles ever become a dog? I doubt it, fair enough monster mileage cars maybe, and examples that are say 10 years old maybe, im sure you understand.

Ok sorry to waffle heres the points im looking for answers on-

a. when i bought my Rs4 which was over a year ago i did look at the gt3s /turbos then and im now looking again - guess what? There are still numerous examples for sale now that were for sale then! Like the silver Gt3 Camtune are selling to name 1. WOW i thought these were sort after, how come you have to what over a year to sell one! Very worrying to a perspective buyer...

b.is this one any good, or is it too'messed with' http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/

c. already said this but ill put here too - which one feels faster on the road (not really into tracking a 50k car that ive worked hard to pay for)

d. is there alot of difference between the early and late 996 gt3

Ok boys and girls i await your valuable response!

I am not sure if your budget will stretch to it, but if you want a Porsche that is quick with a capital "F" then the GT2 is the one for you.

It is basically a stripped out and lightened turbo with only two wheel drive cloud9

that will put hairs on your chest

I don't think you'll get a GT2 for £50k

somone else was looking at this, the description seems incorrect.

it says it had the GT2 aero kit, but in real life it aint got the GT2 rear spoiler, supposedly has a "original porsche performance exhaust" which they dont do.. .. .. .. and there is no stickers under the bonnet (meaning possible front ender/respray) this is all what I was told, a friend of a friend went to see it.

To be fair its also 1 of the turbos i spotted for sale over a year ago! Obviousley somethings adrift, but the silver gt3 cam tune have for about 45k was also still for sale by them over a year ago and i thought they were a well repsected dealer which i would think would mean they only sell nice examples!

The Select Performance car has been on sale since at least March of this year (draw your own conclusions........)
As has been pointed out it doesn't have a GT2 kit fitted (It may be a Turbo S Aerokit but the pictures on their website are so poor you can't tell)

I test drove a "standard" 996 Turbo and an X50 car before taking the plunge and buying my current MK1 GT3.
Both the Turbos are undoubtedly quick, but I found them a bit "remote" (as was the GT2) when compared with the GT3 which is very much "alive"
If you want a sensation of speed and want to "feel" you're going fast, the GT3 (especially the MK1 version) will tick all the boxes.

I drove a MK2 GT3 a couple of weeks ago, a 2004 model (and very low mileage, so felt pretty much as new) In comparison with my six year old MK1 it felt very refined, smooth and rode better, but the steering felt a little more remote and less "pointy" than my car.

The Turbo cars are much more suited to everyday use and the 420-450bhp is only the baseline for a whole host of "reasonably" priced upgrades which will take an already quick car to 520 plus HP.

It very much depends on what you intend using the car for, if it's mainly road use I would say the Turbo is the way to go.

I currently live up in North Wales and thus live close to some superb roads that the GT3 is brilliant to drive on. However, I shall most likely be moving down to the Cotswolds in the not too distant future and thus may well swap to a Turbo (which I think will be better suited to the everyday use it will be put to)

Hope this helps.
