Cayenne Turbo Tyre Wear
Discussion
I got 5000 miles out of my original tyres, had the car laser checked as the front tyres had worn down to the canvas on the insides and i never spotted it, porsche said that i had driven it badly kerbs speed humps etc, its odd a 4x4 should not be driven off road ? Had the tyres relasered after new tyres checked aagin at 50 miles and guess what the tracking was out. had them checked again and out again. I belive that there is a fundlemental problem with these cars with uneven tyre ware, Never had the problem with my Range Rover, Porshe will not own up to a problem as they say the car is not an SUV but a car in its own class, its funny how the sales rubbish advises different, based on the above its 4,000.00 pounds a year in tyres. I think that the settings by Porsche are incorrect, I tried to reject the car and they said see you in court.Anyone had a simular problem
It's a 2 ton chunky 4x4 with supercar levels of power. Did you really expect anything less?
I'll give you the 'worn down to canvas' as a potential problem, but my ancient 993 (which weighs around 1350 kg) will also eat rear tyres in 4000 miles if I enjoy driving it.
If you're doing a lot of bombing around urban areas (heavy braking / acceleration / turning all the time) then I'd fully expect the thing to eat tyres like a tyre eating monster thing.
Perhaps you should consider a harder compound / tougher off-road type tyre next tyre change, and not extend the Turbo to extreme top speeds

My lowly (mere 250bhp) Cayenne V6 also has a healthy appetite for tyres. First set of fronts lasted 9k miles, rears about 12k. Will soon need another pair of fronts - now on about 16k.
My GT3 has done 11k and the rears are still fine!
It's just because it's a big heavy car and the way it handles encourages you to drive it just like a much smaller car.

Hi
Another Cay S with air susp here
@ 18k miles at moment i replaced all 4 1k miles ago (i owned it with 8k on the clock)
only because the garage was offering 4 for price of 3 special offer (conti sport conti 255's 18in £400 all in incl bal track etc)
rears had another 3-4k miles left fronts worn on outside edge, cause i lower it and 'press on' at most available opportunities.
If driven in a more 'composed' manor all the time, i would expect the fronts would last approx 18k ish
and rears another 7-8k .

Hi guys,
we run a pair of F150 lightning pick up trucks as daily drivers. They run 295/45/zr18's and they last somewhere between 25,000 and 28,000 miles. The truck weighs 2200kg has 380- bhp and 450 ft lb of torque.
Neither of us drive them slowly and occasionally lite the rears up as you do. I reckon the Cayenne maybe runs to much camber ?. Before you all shout that they don't handle, the 2nd generation lightning runs bilstein suspension and was fettled by Jackie Stewart to make the truck handle as well as any live rear axle truck can. Very 911 ish in a way, load the rear up coming out of a corner on the power and it will grip and go.

I would suggest considering a different make of tyre. I run a 4.8is X5 which is a few hundred kilos lighter than a Cayenne, but I get over 20,000 miles from a set of tyres and drive it very hard. I switched from Michelin Diamaris to Toyo Proxes ST (315/35 & 275/40 x 20) and have been most impressed with their hard wearing qualities. They're a little less resilient in hot dry weather but extremely grippy in wet and snow conditions. Give them a try.

I did considder changing the tyre make but got the old N rated tyre debate. From the garage.insurance beeing invalid etc
I have spoken to tracking company that make the traking system and they toe the VW Toerag in slightly to avoid uneven wear when I suggested this the Porsche dealer they suggested that as this was not as Porsche say ie out of spec they could not agree to this.
I can accept 5000 miles on the tyres but i cannot accept that the tyres would have been illegal between 1000 and 5000 miles as there was no rubber on the inside, due to the caster etc changing, still maintain that there is a problem with the setup of the porsche specification and they will not agree to this.I think the problem applied to the 20 inch wheels we have another Turbo with 22 inch ATP truck wheel on and so far these have been fine but the 20 inch std wheels showed the same simptons as mine.
Overall I am impreesed with the car but would say that the build quality is not as good as my 2004 Range Rover, I am on my third PCM unit, over heating problems and the AA out for flat batteries twice, once on my drive and once at a go kart track which whent down realy well look at that tosser with 80k car that wont start ?
I would say that that most other car drivers would let me out at junctions etc in my Range Rover but most now try to cut me up and dont let me out of junctions etc especially the Halford Special Nova Corsa drivers.
At present Porsche have given me a credit for the front wheels only as a good will guesture with no liabilty, it makes you think if there is no problem with the car then why give away two tyres.
