Guys ive been offered a high miles 250hp 944 turbo. It is the right colour and spec and at a reasonable price. The drawback is it has done over 150k miles. Now its got FSH and has had alot of recent work (brakes, belts etc). apart fromm stone chips and cracked leather its looks in decent condition. Im planning to go for a drive shortly and get an inspection done. any thoughts on buying a car this mileage? (it will be a 2nd car)

at 150k, its nicely run-in, so feel free to go above 4000rpm.

Mine's gorgeous at 164k, so go in with eyes open, as there are a good few tens of thousand miles left in her.
usual caveats about looking and listening apply

Check:

Clutch
Turbo for play / smoke
Proper boost (1.8 on gauge)

thanks guy. belts, discs and pads, exhaust back box, some suspension stuff all done in last 12 mths, car just serviced and mot'd. Tiny amount of rust on sill which i will sort, oh and the air con isnt working. if its regas thats fine, if its compressor etc then it may affect price i pay. clutch im not sure when it was done, and boost/performance will check when i drive it. i understand wastegate springs wear on older cars, does this mean it runs lower boost?

cheers

No - it will still hit 1.8 bar on the dash gauge (which is 0.8 bar boost) but it gets there slower and increases the lag effect. A shimmed, rebuilt or aftermarket wastegate improves the car massively.

Pay very close attention to the sill bubbling as even a slight trace could be severe underneath. Proper repair can be over £1k with genuine galvanised sills

150k miles is not a problem on this car if its been maintained properly

My next door neighbour has a 944 Turbo with an absolute galactic mileage. I am not sure if it is somewhere in the region of 400K and he uses it every day.

If the wastegate is worn would it be worth looking into a performance increasing one like a dual port wastegate? would that make boost come in sooner/hit harder and hold boost throught the revs? any thoughts on modding a 944 turbo? (i know promax do alot of boost enhancers, performance remaps, de cats etc)

There is little point in buying a 944 turbo to leave it stock as a 944 S2 will always be an easier and more satisfying drive.
Cars in good shape that have been properly looked after handle boost increase pretty well.

Bloody hell!!!!! The highest I've read of to date was 289k in a 944 lux advertised in Porsche Post.

Any chance of a photo of the dash for posterity?

That is seriously impressive! Has he had it from new? Gives me heart about keeping mine as a daily driver(see my thread about using an old 944 as a daily driver - looks like there's a good 350k left in mine )

That is quite a high milage. But just think of the fun he has had - 490 thousand miles in a 944! Bliss!

This is impressive mileage but 944 speedos are known to give up the ghost before the rest of the car.

Would still like to see pictures of this car scratchchin
