Belt for no aircon option on a Turbo 2
Discussion
Does anyone know if there's a shorter poly vee belt for a 92 Turbo 2 without aircon? A/c was standard factory fit but surely someone must have deleted it? I want the compressor out of the system (as it is effectively at present) and the v-belt then only needs to go down from the fan to the alternator iirc.
Thanks UV, I'll have a word with the good guys ooop north.
Re. belts on the car, there's the thin one for the cooling fan with its jockey pulley sender for when it snaps, plus one other large poly vee belt doing the rest, this needs to be about 718mm = 27 & 7/8 inches long, 20mm wide, with five grooves in the 'new' situation with no aircon, much longer originally.
Edited to make it clear that the belt dimensions quoted are for the 'new' situation.

The situation has been forced on me to a degree. It's kinda non-standard!
You guys with a T2 will know there is part of the aircon compressor casting with a pulley wheel on it - just a pulley wheel. It would appear that progressive metal fatigue has led to this part of the casting snapping off, it happened on the move but fortunately little else happened as I was returning from a run and barely more than 50 metres from home. I got it back on the drive and lifted the lid to find a snapped vee belt and the pulley wheel plus remaining bit of compressor casting resting near the cooling fan case. If the belt snap and other factors had led to the pulley wheel flying upwards, or bouncing even, the forces involved would have made a nice hole in several £k's worth of carbon kevlar GT2 engine cover and wing, but the forces were downwards proving there is a God.
So, taking advantage of the situation and facing a weird repair or a new aircon compressor, it seems logical to go for a shorter belt and just ignore the aircon unit, which I do anyway. It will eventually get removed one day, when the car is in for something else.

I had all my AC stuff removed. 9M supplied and fitted a twin belt setup.
By twin belt, do you mean two thinner belts with two grooves running side by side? This is the set-up I've been thinking would be needed. The smaller length belts e.g. 28 inches only seem to come in approx 1cm widths not 2cm. You don't happen to remember what the sizes were? I got two to try, one is a 280K3 the other a 267K3 where the first number refers to tenths of an inch.Update. Got a belt to fit which keeps the aircon compressor alive and just takes out the 'missing' pulley.
Back on the torque trail again - fixed car, owner gets a fix - all withdrawal symptoms disappeared. Just thought I'd share that with you in case it misses News At Ten

As you know I also have a turbo2.
I was at the PCGB event at Eynsham today, and will probably go again on Sunday.
You going?
I'm keen to hear about your car (and see it even better) as these turbo2's are rare as you know.
cheers.
Couldn't go today, busy taking skin off fingers with the belt...hope to go tomorrow. As you know I also have a turbo2.
