I've been the happy owner of a boxster S for several years now, but circumstances have meant that I haven't got to drive it much and so it's time to let go.

Circumstances being that I've moved out of the UK, so in order to get rid of it I need the easiest solution possible. I figured that'd be selling it back to the OPC I got it from.

A couple of questions...

It's from Nov 2001 (51 reg) Lapis blue with only 6,500 miles on the clock (see, I said I didn't use it enough), PSM, Tracker, Wind deflector, FSH. Mint condition.
How much difference in price would I likely get if I sold it privately as opposed to via the OPC - I figured about £3k - £4k but that's just an 'off the top of my head' guess. Any ideas?

I know that they will ask how much I want for it, and I guess I should start high and see what they say (once they've picked themselves up from the floor through laughing), but I don't know how high either.

Finally, anyone want to give me top money for it - Its parked in a garage just north of Liverpool just wanting to get out???
- worth a try ;-)

Porsche dealers allow £7-8k margin. Try a good independent but be warned-you will be shocked at the price

Standby for a rogering, no disrespect but its not a car that an OPC would "want" although of course they would buy it or take it as PX - reckon they will try and limit how many older 986/996 they have on the forecourt.

Also they will have to get the car up to their selling condition (respray stone chips etc) and add a 12mth warranty. Also does it have RMS not matter how minor/driveable as they will knock that off (best part of £1k). Also a convertibel whcih should have bneen sold in April, not rainy August.

my OPC told me what they would buy for, didn't ask what I was after

good luck - let us know how you get on!

Any thoughts on how much I might get from an OPC - I know they won't give me so much (as you guys have said), but a rough figure'd help.

looking on the OPC used car locator you will get an idea

most OPC will retail for is £25k (and this is high due to mileage) and sell for £24k or even £23.5k if the punter is a good negotiator

you don't mention condition of car but I am guessing 17-18k

I had looked at 911virgin.com, but decided that I won't be able to make it all the way to London and back to Liverpool very easily.

Thanks for the info though!

I recently asked my opc what they would give me for my cayman s,and was pleased when they said it had depreciated 3k since I purchased it in March. But they then said - another 6k for their markup. J

Hmm. I am pretty sure that Henry would pick the car up and sort everything out for you..

Any reason you haven't asked an OPC?

Give Henry a ring anyway its not out of the question that he would come and fetch it. OPC is likely to be your worst route price wise but dont assume private would be the best, people who look to buy privately do so because they are looking for a good price. Selling privately can also be a right pain in the A***. Selling to an independent is usually quick and easy, but whoever you sell too you wont get what you expect. Have a look at similar cars on PH classifieds but bear in mind that very few will go for the asking price, my guess would be £17.5k.

My OPC didn't really want to give me a rough price over the phone - they wanted me to take the car to them first. That's why I wanted to see a possible price before going and seeing them.

Anyway, I just phoned Henry and he will give me a decent price for it subject of course to seeing it. And he said that he could come up to Liverpool and buy it, but of course that means I won't get as much for it as if I took it to him.

I've just found out there is a new local dealer that specialises in 'upmarket' cars, so I'll give him a call too.

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions, I only wish I'd registered here before (been lurking for ages)

I would deffo call Henry. He's rude as hell but I reckon he'd only knock a couple of hundred off to fetch it...

Well, he said he'd knock about £2,000 off if he had to collect it. That's why I'm not sure what to do!

My boss sold his wifes Boxster to Crifford of Surrey and he was very pleased with the price (better than the OPC offered as P/X against her Cayman).

Might be worth a try.

Did Henry ask you what the mileage was?

Yes he asked, but he seemed reluctant to come up to Liverpool to get it. Anyway I'm thinking about his offer and waiting to hear back from the local place to see what they will come up with.
