Hi

I have a modified RS with Cargraphic N-GT exhaust. Recently it failed its MOT due to emissions. I have a plan to test and identify the cause, but was wondering if any other owners of modified RS's have faced similar problems? Zubin, Rocket??

I haven't had any problems with mine. It has Cargraphic exhaust/manifolds/"race" cats. Maybe your catalysts are knackered?

My RS is standard, and always passes the emissions test easily. Sorry if I can't offer any other advice!

Was the car fully warmed up when tested? I have heard this can make a big difference.

If they are 100 cell cats, then they do not heat up as quick, nor hold heat as well as standard due to the relative lack of mass, have them red hot, it should pass unless they are duffers.

Hi, My carrera C2 has a full N-Gt system and it failed on one pipe but passed on the other, overall a pass :-) apparently only needs to pass on one exhaust - check if it failed on both pipes.

Then 200 miles later the engine went pop - detonation, needed new barrels, pistons, one head and a big end and new rings.

The mot failure was a warning - worth checking out why it is failing:

Knackered cat - only one side on the cargraphic system
Burning oil - again likely only one side on cargraphic system (my case and warning of imminent failure)
Mixture wrong - both sides (unless an ignition problem is causing incorrect ignition on only one cylinder)

HTH and it is not something serious.

I too run the big bore N-GT system with a tuned engine, passed no probs, I thought I'd have problems as the cats have mysteriously disappeared, was told emissions were no higher than a 1600 escort!

Good point, make sure engine is hot before testing

Thanks for the input guys. I will look into how it was tested. Failing that i will be looking at fuel and the Oxygen sensor
