Nearest derestricted autobahn to Reims?
Discussion
Not a helpful reply, but in my experience most of the autobahns in the North-West of Germany are very disappointing if you want to do a flat out straight line run, they all have limit, worn surfaces and masses of traffic. I believe you have to head East and/or South for the chance to hit big speeds, which makes for quite a trip from Reims.
pjm. Not quite true.
Check out on a map but if you can get a blast on the A31 on your route then it's worth while. Joining from the A2/3 the A31 is a famous stretch of high quality road approx 35miles long that's pretty straight and mostly empty. There's huge stretches of the road still totally unrestricted and without many junctions.
I used to live in Munster and so have driven the stretch a million times from Dusseldorf airport - every car I've owned has been maxed out there...!!
As an extra incentive.. go around 11.00pm and around the junction with Bottrop you may find yourself being overtaken by a Merc or two doing ballistic speeds.. They might look fairly ordinary but be warned... a certain Brabus has their factory at Bottrop and use the A31 to run their cars in.. regularly see them blasting at 185mph+.. keep up if you can..
Other than the A31 in the Northwest its fairly difficult to find decent stretches - either restricted, roadworks, etc.
