Autocar this week, referring to a Porsche source, stated that the Cayman S will NOT get any power hikes in response to the Boxster S getting the Cayman engine. Story is that it would get too close to the 911!!!

Do you think that's a fact or just a stall till maybe the 911 gets some power tweaks so they can afford to?

It's probably true. They are very conscious of their model hierarchy. It would be easy for them to make a 911 curshing Cayman with a 400+ bhp engine, but it would steal sales from the 911 and confuse the line up. It's just a marketing/brand decision, rather than an engineering one. They will gladly leave people like 9ff and Ruf to tart up Caymans with bigger engines, nicely away from their pure bloodline/product range.

I'm not sure it's a big deal. The Cayman S sounds like it's quick enough for most occasions and you can always get a tuner to drop a 911 engine in if you feel the urge and have the cash.
