Been trying to sell my 968cs for a while now, with no interest. So whats wrong. It appears to be the cheapest RHD available, and i honestly think it has to be one of the best available.
Is it the unusual colours? The price? the advert?

This is not some half baked sales plan. I just genuinely am wondering why it won't sell, and if the others on the internet are actually selling at those prices?

Could be because you race it.

Ring 'em up and find out!

A lot of buyers will be looking for one in stock condition (i.e. not modified), so decals, racing kit might put them off.

Plus if it's dressed as a race car and priced below all the others, people might assume that it's suffered a few tank-slappers on the track.

Try ringing a specialist, see if they'll offer you a price for it.

You can't be far off what a dealer would offer at this price. My 105k 95 car went to a dealer for just about 1,500 but it needed at least that in paint.

I personally think that 968's are quite overpriced (wait for the backlash from 968 owners)

Its ok to talk up prices on forums, and then have a small forum based market to sell to at that price, but the wider market are not willing to pay the premium. I sold my RHD CS a couple of years back for 10k and a LHD maritime blue CS car a couple of years before that for £9.5k. Both were great cars & I cant see that they are worth anymore now?

The surest test of what the market will pay has to be ebay. You will only find out what it is worth by starting low and seeing what it bids up to. There is LHD clubsport on there that has repeatedly failed to bid above £8k.

With 944 S2's seemingly available for 2 - 3k (again confirm this on e-bay), 12k for a 968 will put off many who will settle for the older car.

Cheers

Looks nice, although I think the 911 wears 'white' better than the 968.

I suppose there is just a general over-supply of all cars on the market and the buyer simply has too much choice.

Anyone considering a 968CS, perhaps for road/track use, is faced with a lot of options (E36 M3, Mitubishi Evo/Subaru WRX/Elise/Caterham/etc, etc. )

I sold my 50k rhd CS 14 months ago for £14.5k. It was in excellent condition ans had all the bits M030, LSD, Big reds, 1/2 cage, billet alloy front suspension, the whole shooting match. I asked £16.5k but never got a sniff for over 3 months. I eventually tracked down a purchaser through a thread that I saw on PH. Up to that point there was little or no interest whatsoever. Car is apparently back on the market needing some engine work, currently asking £12.5k. I also know that executors acting for the late Del have been trying to sell his lhd CS without success for over 12 months with no success at all, they are asking £14.5k which they know in their heart of hearts they will never get.

At £12,500 with no M030 or KW conversion and no LSD I think you'll struggle. Drop it to £10,500 and it'll probably go. IMHO

Good luck anyway.

I'd agree on pricing being the stumbling block - I own a 968CS & paid well under £8k for it two years back. Also have an S2 - which cost £3k. Yes it would be great to think they're worth what some specialists mark them up at but I'm under no illusion about rising values etc.

That said I think white with red wheels is the BEST colour combo for a 968 & it should be worth the most. If I didn't own one already I'd be trying to do a deal on yours - couldn't fine white for love nor money back when I looked.

E36 M3's are also extremely cheap now (£3-9k) which wasn't the case a year or two back - even E46 are mid-teens & there must be a similar buyer profile - 4 seat/coupe/track potential etc.

Price drop?

For what its worth, I was looking for a 968CS and have posted threads on this and other forums to find out a bit more about them, especially as I want to have a car to use occasionally on track. I have also spoken to an independemnt trader to find out a bit more about the market. He does not have one to sell at the moment so has no issue with giving me advice but I printed off several details and asked his opinion. The answer was the most were overpriced, particularly if they did not have MO30; as they were either above or around the figures that he would sell for with a warranty and a profit margin! The LHD one I showed him he considered to be significantly over priced, arguing that LHD 968s should be about 25% cheaper than the same mileage right hooker.

In comparison, I am now looking at a low mileage 944 Turbo in Silver Rose spec for less than half the price of a typical 968CS. To be frank, at that price, its a lot easier to justify to my better half, especially seeing as this will be my 3rd "toy".

It is a difficult one to price. If you lower the price a lot. you are bound to get someone interested who is prepared to speculate. However, with it being a bit of classic, it never going to fly off the shelf. Just irritating, as I am itching for something new.

Hi Lewis,

I called you regarding your car but at the time you was talking about a minimum of 13.5 and i couldnt see the car untill you were in London. I ended up buying a low miles black cs with the m030 for 12k cash.

I think yours is now good value i was just lucky with the situation my friend was in, being that he just had another new car coming.

They do seem to be a very specialised car though.

Not really, it is simply over-priced, the car just isnt worth £12.5k, not matter *how* good the condition is. If you want to sell it, £10k and it will be gone in a week.

We have a customer looking to sell his black/black, full history LHD non-M030 clubsport, no a/c and standard seats, new brakes, etc for around £10k if it floats anyones boat.

i completely fail to see how mo30 cs's in general can be so good and so cheap. its great for most of us but i mean 10-12k for a goodun and on the same planet bog standard euro sh1tboxes cost over 20k. madness. i dont really know 968 mkt but usually if it aint selling its too much £, its certainly not the photos !!!. mkt forces i guess.

Another problem is that Boxsters can now be bought for the same money and sometimes less, which means that it is up against a very competent modern car that can be tracked.

Im having the same problem with mine. I always thought these cars would sell instantly. Its a major problem for me as I have put a deposit on a 993 to die for, and I can't pay the balance until it has sold. The guy has very kindly waited for me for about a month now but I reckon my days are numbered in this situation and he will just sell up. Assuming price isn't the problem, I can't see any reason why I have no punters at all.

Took me years to sell mine, and it was virtually perfect. Superb cars, but a limited market.
