Can any of you die hard Porschaphiles out there tell me where the name came from ???

Reason i ask, i have just completed a Mountain bike tour of the Rockies, and one
of the days, we cycled through a very nice town called Basalt, on the way to Aspen.

near this town, the tracks were a very dark almost volcanic black, which kind of made me put 2+2 together.....
.....and prob come up with 5 ??????

can anyone clarify ???

Cheers

Basalt is as has been pointed out is cooled lava or volcanic rock.

It is by its very nature black with metals within, which have similarites to the metallic fleck you see in the Porsche paint, hence I guess the name.

What about 'Guards Red'? Anyone?

I always assumed guard's red (or "Indischrot" - indian red) had something to do with the uniform of some british army regiment?

'Indian Red' is a natural pigment used in oil paints etc, that originally came from India

it'd be called Guard's Red (not officially though i think) in the UK because, as said, of the colours of British Guards regiments uniforms
