Anybody point out why this is so cheap?, it's for a friend, he doesn't mind Tip's & a set of 18" alloys can be had for £700 from classifides, So over to 993 boys, what is it missing?

Pre-vario 993 c2 tip in Iris with 80k miles for £18k? Sounds ok.
Normally i would go looking for a clutch on the way out, but this is a tip

Assuming HPI clear, no gearbox issues, and brakes in reasonable nick it seems like a very sensible price (that makes a change!).

*teachingeggsuckingmodenenabled* remember that HPI doesnt show all damage, regardless of how major, just that which has been recorded. worth doing a major inspection yourself in my humble O *eggsuckingmodedisabled*

The engine bay pic shows an aircon compressor - might not work of course, but usually just needs a recharge.

Unless there is a major diffrence betwwen 996 tip & 993 tip NO it doesn't.

I have a tip and frankly I would have it over a manual, I don't know if I would pay £2k more for it new, but in used you get it free, if not even cheaper than a manual.

You have to bear in mind he & I are useing these as every day cars in a city & playing with them at weekends.

If it was purly a toy then fair comment, but we dont want to start anymore hairycheasted threads today, well not until after lunch.

Nah - I agree don't worry about the tiptronic, as all the real drivers and real men will be driving GT3s, not the lowly 993

My thoughts exactly, get an indy to give it a once over pick up alloys & bobs your dads brother.
He has a 2.5 boxster the now and has always wanted a 993, I am pushing him as the running costs are going to be the same.

Re: tiptronic vs manual, there is a big difference in the 993 (much more so than the 996). One of the finest 6 speed manual gearboxes ever made, versus a 4 speed with a torque converter.

BUT for some people the tip does make more sense because of personal circumstances (disabilities, city living, etc.) or preferences (some people just like autos!).

Tell your mate to get down there and have a good look at it, or get someone to inspect it. Looks like a good car from the pictures and description.
