Just a quick note about insurance..

I run a 997 Carrera and a Cayman S. All my previous motors have been German specs and held on foreign insurance policies that UK insurance companies give no credit for...b******s!!

Anyways, first few quotes were a ridiculous £6k bill for both together (I'm under 30, zero UK bonuses, cars on a drive but no garage, Central London postcode etc). Tried every option and Admiral came in for £1,250 which I thought was pretty good.

Mentioned it to OPC when picking up my Cayman S who immediately stopped me from driving away. A call to Cheam Insurance Brokers (OPC recommendation) was a life saver. They pulled every string imaginable and got me £1,450 from CHUBB. Policy is a "total cover" i.e. they will pay new value of car if stolen/written off, fully comp on any UK car (incl. hire cars), and anybody can drive the car...perfect.

So why go for the more expensive CHUBB insurance...? Actually very simple.. Although the Admiral deal was cheaper, they do not have to allow OPC repairs to cars.. Means that if you have a problem that is not covered by warranty (break-in, crash) they can nominate a non-OPC garage for repairs..!! Imagine that on your log book.

Everybody may already know this (as I said, this is my first ever UK insurance policy) but make sure if you're buying a new/nearly new Porsche that your insurance policy specifically allows OPC repairs.

Thanks to OPC Mayfair..!!

Sounds like useful info for anyone who runs more than one car - thanks!
Don't suppose you have Cheam's number handy do you? I'm up for renewal on both policies in August...

Cheam Insurance Brokers are on 020 8652 7733. The man to speak to is Greg Bridges. If in doubt, ask about the CHUBB Masterpiece policy (the one I have and prb best out there..)

Good luck
