I went for the fixed -20mm suspension option on my 997.
Having driven one with the standard I can't believe more
people don't go for this option.
The handling is fantastic when you wind it up and is smooth
around town.
If your specing your new proker seriously consider this option
and there is no cost involved.
Short shift box is also a must I have had no sticking in first
gear as mentioned in the sales brochure.

Interesting - Most of the people who chose the -20mm option seem to rate it highly, and I assume that more people don't choose this simply because there are so few dealer cars available with the option to allow you to try it before you place an order.

Personally I'm happy with PASM route, being able to switch between normal and sport at will.

I agree about the sports shifter - I'm really glad I chose this, and even in sub-zero temperatures, have had no problems with it being stiff etc.

I have to agree with you Baron

The -20mm is a great option and for me it is such a vital part of the car I would not have a 997 without it.

When I went for a test drive in a 2S and 4S Iasked about this and whether they had a car to try. Unsurprisingly they didn't but they also advised against it. To be honest I felt I knew more about it than he did (not a shock given OPC education) but he did say they found it hard to shift a 20mm 2S they had in stock, presumably because most numpty 911 buyers assume PASM is a great feature and to remove it loses a setting.

No sweeping generalisations there then

I expect the -20mm fixed feature will be seen as the best option a few years down the line, when PASM systems need replacing and when the majority of buyers will be non-company purchases.

Do you get an LSD with the -20mm option or is that something else?

well what explanation would you have for everyone giving it a wide berth then, despite lots of press saying that PASM was flawed and the PCGB test car given to mags for speed/track tests was a -20mm/PCCB car?

the OPC sales guy said most people avoided it because they had hard about PASM and liked the way it the gadget could flick between the settings. Not knocking PASM - I thought the std mode was excellent for motorway work and liked sport mode too though didn't try it on to many B roads and drove it at 80% at most

Wonder if there is any differential in prices 2nd hand between the two options, would be interesting considering no cost difference when new.

my explanation is that, having driven both back-to-back, I preferred the PASM car so I bought one.

a satisfied numpty 911 buyer

I've posted comments before having driven one with PASM on a less than smooth track, would also go with the -20 option after that experience. Don't remember reading any press that agreed with this though..
