how much weight to HPI?
Discussion
this caught my eye as i was browsing idly (!)
www.pistonheads.com/sales/85081.htm
seems incredibly cheap for a turbo-bodied 993, then you read the blurb about teh HPI, then the subsequent VOSA inspection all-clear. So how much weight does one put on a car falling foul of HPI, and how much comfort does one gain from the VOSA all clear?
(just to add to the debate, if you go to 911 heaven website there's a blue widebody further down the page, same age, roughly same miles, 20K more !!!!)

I wouldn't automatically be put off- find out more about the HPI - what damage was done etc.
It depends on whether you are worried about it being a bad car or being difficult to sell. A great many cars of this age may have had shunts which didn't quite make the register. If there are lots of details which show it wasn't too bad then make your own mind up.
If the story looks OK then the saving of between 5-10k below usual dealer price might be worth thinking about

I saw this car on 911 Heaven's website a while ago and it grabbed my attention in the same way as it did those who have posted before me.
I think I could probably live with the idea that it was accident-repaired if the due diligence checked out. But selling it on again when the time came would be likely to be such an issue, especially on a private sale, that I'm not sure I could be persuaded, even if it was saving me £8-10K over usual dealer list price.
Depends whether you can put up with the hassle and automatically losing 90% of your target audience as soon as they see Cat D in the ad, I suppose.

Could (easily) be wrong but that looks awfully like sambaman's garage/drive - isn't that where the pics of Vic's old GT2 were taken?
If it is I'm sure he'll give you a straight answer about it.
Better go find my anorak ...
Edited to correct my typo ...

certainly is my garage buddy !! the car is cat 'C' .. when i bought the car had it up on our ramp no inner wing damage at all ....original stickers on front inner wings , original factory sticker underside of bonnet .. rear inner wings seem to be untouched ... we reckon its had a spin at some point in its life and sustained damage to outer rear wings...whoever ( we have no history or idea who did the repair ) made a thouroughly nice job ( hence me purchasing the car for stock ) all door shut lines are very nice n straight..., boot shut lines are great .... drives very straight..like one of the guys says ..if its to drive and enjoy then great as the mileage etc is 100% verified and the body is very very nice ....on the other hand if the cat 'c' does worry you it may affect the price when resale is on the cards....

Wow , that certainly sends a rush of blood to the .... head!
What a beauty , I certainly wouldn't have a problem with it ... I'd imagine if one was to keep it for a few years the HPI report would become much more insignificant.
... And if one was to import it to Ireland , it would probably never again be HPI checked
