So they have my £10,000 deposit! I have my paperwork that says quite clearly a July build and September delivery. Then the whispers start.....slight delay, manufacturing problems etc etc. So I ring my sales executive at OPC (name witheld to save ostrasising me any further)and am told...they don't know anything! So I ring the dealer principal who confirms a delay but knows......nothing. So I ring Porsche GB Customer Services (is that a contradiction in terms?)who knows.....nothing. No reason for delay, no timescales, no revised delivery dates....nothing!!!

Can anyone proffer any info on this most tricky subject?

yes my dealer has admitted they only have one build slot this year due to the delay (October). He couldnt tell me if the slot is mine though! The next is January for a February delivery and then a March slot.

My dealer has confirmed my build slot for an April 07 delivery. If its delayed by a month then that's fine. After all its another month of saving up meaning a smaller amount to finance!!

Originally the build programme was due to start before August, although the first UK cars were scheduled for build in August/Sept. There have been some delays, apparently due to specialist component suppliers. My OPC could not be specific but there have been rumours ranging from 30 to 90 days.

In truth, I don't think anyone knows exactly and the situation should become clearer in the next few weeks.

If it's any consolation, I visited the Aston Martin factory last week and they said that their cars were frequently delayed due to the bespoke build process.

At least my delayed Porsche should be more reliable than my AMV8 which goes end of this month. I can't believe a TVR would have been any worse.
Latest I heard direct from Porsche last week was that original delay was eight weeks but now clawed back to four. I actually think they're going to suprise us - in a good way. Here's hoping!

So what colour are we having folks??

Is this the $10m dollar question or was it an easy decision?

Red with black wheels. Clubsport spec. Only change my mind a couple of times a day but have now spec'd car and told dealer to refuse to accept calls from me regarding any further changes!

I understand the delay has been caused by Mahle (the piston suppliers for the engines). The pistons are not ready hence the engines haven't been built.

As my dealer obviously cannot give me a run out in a 997 GT3 and I've just given them £10k + promised to stump up £70k plus.....

They've offered me a 997 Turbo to drive on Saturday

Mmmmm should I take them up on their offer lol!

Nothing like winding customers up is there. Having had my £10k months ago Porsche are now asking for a further £5k on speccing the car. That's right - the one they can't confirm a delivery date on. Guess what I said. Anyone else been asked for this yet

"bespoke"; what a great euphemism.

Had to read that twice

So, buyers had to stump up £10k in cash when placing order months ago and you are now being asked for another £5k when you give them your final spec?????

Does your ar$e hurt as it sound like you are being shafted

Info I now have is 150 units will come in for the 2007 model year, first cars likely for October delivery, my dealer only getting two, one Jan, one March 07!
It's a lottery depending on where you are on the list & how big your dealer is, big London dealers are getting more cars & earlier!!!

Was that from Porsche or your dealer, because some of the dealers seem to have been making things up to close sales (alledgedly)?

Porsche! I'm not saying it 100% concrete, but it is what I was told last week!

I've been told the same.

Also, with the GT3, rather than pre-allocating the cars to each dealership, the build slots are, apparently, being gradually allocated to the dealerships on the basis of number of confirmed orders they have.
