boxster clutch
Discussion
I have just bought a 2000 boxster s.I have trouble setting off smoothly, the clutch has to be pressed to the floor to change gear but only releases at the top so it feels i am burning the clutch to drive smoothly. When on tickover the revs are about 650rpm and is a little uneven,i suspect this is why i cant take off smoothly. Is it easy enough to adjust the tickover? as it was just a bolt on my 911 and i was hoping this is as simple, thanks
Hi Scruffy,
I don't have any answers I'm afraid, but having just bought my 2.5, I do find the boxster clutch takes a lot more concentration to set off smoothly than any other car I've driven recently.
However setting off quickly is easy.
I have wondered if it is getting worn but the bite point is midway and there is no slippage. Tickover is fine on mine.

For basic servicing (Oil & Filters) I'll probably continue my local mechanic. He works on lots of tasty/unusual stuff (Porsche, Jag, Merc, Ferrari, TVR - classics & modern).
I've used him for years and have absolute faith in him.
For any bits more specialised I'm going to use Loe Bank Motors in Edenfield, who are up the M66 North of Manchester.
They're an independent Porsche Specialist. Chis, the owner, was Porsche trained and worked down South in main dealers before settting up on his own.
They did the check-up on my car before I bought it. It took an hour and a half and was very thorough. They seem very knowledgable and helpful.
Let me know how you get on with the clutch Scruffy.

I got my 2003 boxster last month and I have had a very similar experience. The clutch feels like it's slipping sometimes when setting off but it's just very non-linear. Mine had a new clutch fitted only a few thousand miles ago so I 'm pretty sure the clutch isn't on it's way out. I've come to the conclusion that they're just like that! I've been told that the clutch on the S is a big AP racing type thing. They can be a bit grabby if your not used to it.
