Porsche USA packages

Mate of mine lives in Chicago and was going to order himself a Cayman. We were discussing the spec he was getting and he said he was going for the package plus and PCM. I had to look it up as I had no idea what he was talking about. In the US it seems they offer a discounted package of the usual extras.
Why don't they do that here in UK land?

Because it's the UK and people there are prepared to pay the highest price for anything. The only way to change that attitude is to walk away. enough people do that and the price comes down.

don't take this the wrong way but it dosn't quite work like that.
Spending power is pretty much equivalent in whichever country you live. currency exchange makes no difference to you if your paid in pounds and buy things in pounds, does it? Therefore it may look cheaper to us over here but in the states $20k is just as difficult to find as £20k is to us.
My point was not so much the cost of the thing, (the Cayman starts at $58k in the US!) but that they have worked out that if you offer a cheaper package you might get more takers of the overall car. Plus the US (i'm told) will offer discounts.
I don't blame Porsche for this but Porsche GB they just seem to see us as mugs who'll pay out extra for the toys but in fact its what put me off buying one here.

Very few US buyers are ready to wait 6 months or more for cars built to individual specifications. Manufacturers combine individual options into "packages" and ship vehicle to dealers spec'ed with a few different packages and in various colours - so punters can walk in off the street, sign for the finance and drive away
