NEW C2S

Hi all,

Just about to place an order with my local OPC for a new C2S with the following spec;

Midnight blue metallic
Black Leather
Park assist
Sunroof (?)
Sport chrono plus(?)
PSE
Classic wheels
Sports seats
seat heating
Sat nav
Phone
Bose

Just wondering what the forum experts think of my choices and if I have missed any essential options.

I have owned 2 x 997 C2Ss (1 coupe, 1 cab) - a lot of this stuff is subjective, but:

Personally I wouldn't bother with Sport Chrono - it looks stupid on the dash in my eyes (though I will be having it on the new TT where it adds 10 second overboost capability).

IMHO the standard Carrera S wheels look fantastic and are so much nicer than the Classic wheels - the Classic wheels 'cheapen' the car and make it look more like a 996 or a dated car.

The standard seats are pretty 'sporty' and the sports seats are not very comfortable, especially on longer journeys (or if you're fat) - I would stick with the standard seats (and I'm not fat!).

Def go with sunroof unless you're very tall (>6'2" - it's always nice to see the sky.

I'm assuming you're going manual - good man!

Other than that you're looking good - it's just a shame they haven't yet introduced the forthcoming Bluetooth phone kit.

Agree re Sports Chrono. Disagree re wheels - I've never liked the standard wheels and prefer the classics. Obviously a metter of personal taste though.

I'd agree about the wheels (I like the standard wheels), disagree about the Sunroof (why bother?) and disagree about the seats (the Adaptive sports seats are fantastic!!)

I love the Sports seats compared to standard, love the classic wheels compared to S and I would get sunroof.

Apart from the fact that I'm heading for a £2250 bill for the service of my 996, I have the pleasure of a brand new 997C2 S for three days.

The interior - OK
The outside - Stunning, wide fat arse etc etc.
The engine - very powerful
The noise (sports exhaust) - WOW
The drive (after 475 miles today up to the Midlands and back) - comfortable
The gearbox (auto) [size=24]SHITE[/size]

Why anyone would want to buy a car like that with a ing box that has a mind of it's own (normally about 1/2 a second behind the driver!) is beyond me.

Same with me, Sport Chrono not worth it IMHO, also anyone any advice on the adaptive sports seats. I tried out the standard Sports seats (these the same?) but I have broad shoulders and found my back never touched the seatback as the shoulder bolsters pushed my shoulders forward. Felt uncomfortable, so I'll be going with the standard seats which are just fine.

Those Carrera Classic wheels do date the car very much I agree, the others look far better.

Thanks all for the replys. I will ditch the sport chrono and re think the wheels. I was thinking the classics would be easier to keep clean but I take your very valid point about dating the car. I am still in undicided about the sunroof, is wind noise etc a major issue when it is fully opened and the car is at high speed?

I'm a little confused here but , I thought the chrono + was both the hideous stopwatch AND PASM ... can you get one without the other?

classic wheels much easier to clean and you can see the brake disks and calipers (get red ones) much better, rear wiper very useful, no wash but needed when mucky roads, chrono gimmicky clock does not even illuminate at night, get the 20mm suspension and an after market Tubi exhaust £1400 and enjoy enjoy enjoy

PASM is standard on all C2Ss - chrono is separate (and is the hideous stopwatch).

agree with some of the comments about wheels, think std S wheels are great, SD wheels even better so would probably shell out for the small extra, carrera classics horribly boring IMHO

skip chrono, clock is silly, extra-sensitive throttle and PSM-retardation pointless

I thought sports seats better than std (6'1", 13.5 stone) and adaptive are great so would sacrifice sunroof for those if money limited

only thing I would add that is personal is leather rear centre conole - the only patt of the interior trim that feels plasticky and cheap IMHO

and good man for going PSE and manual, my views on tip are bleeped out

I had a sunroof on my 997 C2S (I am 6 foot) and I loved it and used it the whole time. I would get another - I like a breeze flowing through the car when the sun is shining and I am hammering around country roads.
