Do you know Carrera Performance, Horsham (Monks Gate)? I'm looking for somewhere local to do some suspension work and they're so local I could walk home!

Please post anything good about them here and e-mail me with any horror stories.

Cheers
Andy

Watch out for the red Polo if you get a loaner!

I got the grey one, I wouldn't like to use the words "death trap", but I hope it's not indicative of their work!

Also I thought, "Nobody is going to give you a loan car with NO fuel in it, the gauge must be broken". Wrong! A mile down the road it starts to shudder and I get to the next service station on fumes. If I'd been driving in the other direction I'd have been stuffed.

Anyway, I'm told they're good chaps and the work is top notch, I'll let you know when I get it back.

I had an extremely odd experience with them which I’ve loaded into their google review page. Quite the strangest in my decades of collecting cars and bikes.

To summarise after reading your review -

- You went down there and were welcomed and accommodated by both the receptionist and the owner.

- They didn’t get back to you on your requested quote because the co owner you spoke to was in Ill health.

- After not getting a quote you leave a 1 star google review that drags down their overall rating.

So not only will the business be suffering due to the co owners ill health you put the boot in online while claiming to want to help local business..

If that's the strangest thing that's happened to you in decades of dealing with garages then you're had a very sheltered life!

You found a knowledgeable specialist on your doorstep who you identified as knowing their stuff. You then take steps to ensure you can't use them. That sounds like a masterstroke.

Google reviews are so petty. If you have an issue go deal with face to face or jog on.

No one likes a tell tale!

You need to read it again. I went back and started the whole thing again. Spoke to the other owner. Had a similarly friendly chat and again absolute silence. I also told him I was keen to get hold of a project car to prepare for my son. He had a few ideas and would revert. Once is fair enough but twice is bloody odd. I’ve two Porsche’s and three VWs. They are a Porsche and VW specialist. I live in the next village. There are quite a few in the area. Meanwhile the work is being done in Billingshurst.

You need to read it again. The exact same process happened TWICE. There are loads of sports car specialists in the area

The EXACT same experience happening twice with both partners of the business?? Ok fair enough, tell me a stranger experience you’ve had.

Two one star reviews out of six. That’s a pretty high proportion. Out of interest what would you consider a reasonable ratio?

- After not getting a quote you leave a 1 star google review that drags down their overall rating.

YES. THEN I CHASED AND SPOKE TO THE OTHER OWNER AND HAD EXACTLY THE SAME CONVERSATION WITH HIM AND HE SAID HE’D BE BACK SOON. AFTER ALL IT WAS A QUOTE TO FIT A SPORTS EXHAUST AND UPGRADE TGE HEADLIGHTS. I WASN’TASKING FIR THE CAR TO BE PREPARED FOR LE MANS THIS YEAR

- They didn’t get back to you on your requested quote because the co owner you spoke to was in Ill health.

NO BUT THAT’S OK AS I CHASED AND SSPOKD TO SOMEONE ELSE A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER

- After not getting a quote you leave a 1 star google review that drags down their overall rating.

I’M ONE OF TWO ONE STAR RATINGS OUT IF SIX. WHAT WOULD BE A REASONABLE RATIO IN YOUR OPINION?

So not only will the business be suffering due to the co owners ill health you put the boot in online while claiming to want to help local business..

OO FAIR ENOUGH. DON’T KNOW WHY YOUVE TAKEN SUCH UMBRAGE BUT ALLOW ME TO PUT YOUR MIND AT EASE. HERE’S MY EDITED VERSION. I HAVE TWICE SPOKEN TO THEM ABOUT SOME WORK ON MY CAR AND HAVE CHASED THEM UP. LIKE ME THEY ARE GERMAN CAR ENTHUSIASTS. THEY HAVE FAILED TO COME BACK TO ME ON EITHER OF THE TWO JOBS I ASKED FOR. SO IN RESPONSE TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION - THEY’RE ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT AND CAN BE RELIED UPON COMPLETELY. BETTER?

I very much doubt there are loads of decent Porsche specialists in the area.

It could be that they aren’t getting back to you for reasons other than them being crap. Think about it.

Cridfords are good. Bought two cars from them. And Mortimers. The other aspect that hacked me off is that I am disabled - my right leg and arm have 20% mobility. My cars are adapted. (I use Ergo Mobility in Bolney who are brilliant if anyone is interested). It’s sodding dfifficult getting up the stairs to their office in a leg brace and crutches so the least they could do is come back.

Dunno what you mean by ‘think about it’. Explain

Perhaps they're very good at what they do (that being fixing cars) but their communication skills are lacking ? But they could also be understaffed and have a huge volume of work ? Or they may just simply consider you to be a time-waster ?

I think you’ll find they divide opinion. I bought a car from them once. There won’t be a twice.

Afternoon Peter.
As my old accountant (god bless him) used to say : 5% of your clients will cause 95% of your headaches.
