Friends got back from Shanghai last year, been there since 2019, they can't believe how backwards the UK feels compared to China. They really wanted to get home, they are not trying to get a permanent appointment out there again.

absolutely this ^^^ As an aside, all the big cities we were in in China felt totally safe compared to, say, Brum/Londinium/Manchester
