My 2018 718 GTS is due its first service under my ownership next week and it's booked into the local OPC. It's under extended warranty which isn't due until July.

My car has a couple of cosmetic mods (GT4 style duckbill spoiler and OEM Porsche GT4 side vents) fitted, and had planned to remove them when/if the car was going into the OPC, but now it's came to the crunch time, I'm questioning if it's necessary (mainly due to the side vents).

The terms of the warranty only really state that claims will not be paid where any damage relates to a unapproved modification or where non-OEM parts have been fitted so that's OK, but, if the vehicle is not in standard factory condition, would this be noted and prevent me from extending the warranty when it's due? Does anyone have experience with how OPCs view minor mods (one would presume dimly)?

If under warranty just renew over the phone nearer July. As long as you renew whilst still under warranty no need for an inspection.

Irenew / extened my warranty 2 weeks ago and it had to be done i person. (Glasgow OPC)
It took about 30 min of paperwork. They needed to photograph the odometer.
I said I thought it would be straightforward to do over the Phone, but they said it had to be done in person as they needed about 4 wet signatures on the warranty papers

I renewed mine by phoning up and they sent the paperwork out in the post for me to sign and return

I signed it all and put in in the envelope ready to send back, yet somehow mislaid it. I rang up and they accepted a scanned & emailed copy of my signed documents.

It does feel a bit like renewing a warranty in about 1998!

mine was done on site but I had another car with me for a service. No inspection, but it was a renewal.

My OPC renewed my Macan's EW over the phone just with a photo of the mileage and a scan of the V5C.

On a similar thread, the 991.1GTS I am collecting soon has a full OPC service history, just 9,000 miles. It comes with a 6 month warranty from one of the highly respected indis.
I am going to have the car serviced in July just after the 3 month ownership window when I can put an extended warranty on. This is 1 month early for it's service schedule.
If I then apply for the extended warranty at time of service, am I correct in understanding it doesn't need the 111 point check?

I think if it is out of warranty, it needs the 111point check as part of getting onto the warranty - and if the last service was outside OPC, it needs a service at OPC as well.

So in your case, it will need the 111point check as well as the service - (the 111 point check is only £85 ish IIRC - so you might as well get that done at the same time )

the risk will be there are other out of service items on the car (e.g. non oem battery etc) at the time of the 111 point check that would need to be rectified

All services have been OPC.
No non oem parts fitted including battery.

I think it all hinges on whether the car has current extended warranty or not that dictates the 111 point check requirement.
If it has a extended warranty, then no 111pt check, but if it is a new extended warranty, it needs it frown

(OPC service history is separate element)

If car is already under warranty then you can extend remotely without needing a 111 point check.

OPC's brought this in after 2020. If the car isn't under warranty then you will need 111 point check. If your car's in for a major service then your OPC may do this for free as part of the service, otherwise there's a charge.

To loop back, the OPC didn't mention the cosmetic mods (although it was noted for bodywork that the 'vehicle was too dirty to inspect' - it wasn't even that bad) - but I did get pulled up for having a Bosch battery fitted, with the printed report recommending supply and fit of a Porsche branded battery for £760, and it was noted I had non-N rated tyres.

I mentioned Porsche GB told me in writing that N-rated tyres are no longer a requirement for warranty - off the record, they were completely unconcerned by the battery or tyres and didn't even suggest getting them changed out given the parts fitted were high quality.

My warranty was extended last week. The car was booked in for a new Aerokit to be coded (was on stopsale when I got my car) and I renewed warranty at the same time. Regardless, they also required it be done in person.

That's good from your OPC.
When I put my old 981 Boxster onto an extended warranty I had to have a new battery fitted and I have an excellent relationship with them being a liaison with them for the local PCGB region.

new rules are it's done in person, plus they need to see the miles, plus the service book and the V5 and all signed in person.
I did not have to take my car in though just a picture of the mileage. But you have to prove the last service was OPC and you are the keeper.

Sadly now you cannot renew warranty unless you had the las service by an OPC, not sure how JZM, RPM are now getting on with this issue.
Even PPN cars don't qualify for the 4th year warranty renewal. Both seem to sell a lot of cars which say "serviced by us" which now is a negative if you want a warranty, 90% must take it out on newer cars these days.

I just renewed the warranty on JurassicBGTS’s old 981 BS a couple of weeks ago at OPC Glasgow.
They needed it done in person, photographed the odometer and signed the papers in person.
They didn’t need to see the service book (but they did the last service and could see that on their system i suppose), and they didn’t need the V5, but it was an extension, as opposed to a new warranty and i was on their system for a couple of years

yeah i'd imagine if my car was out of warranty and I wanted it back on, they'd do a 111 point check and a new battery would be mandatory. hopefully it being under warranty currently gives a tiny bit of flexibility.
