Porsche purchase tax to be 90k in France
Discussion
If you believe Britain's ZEV mandate is challenging, take note of the remarkable tariff hidden in the new French budget, which was pushed through the national assembly this week using the decree power of Article 49.3—a signature move of the Macron administration.
Starting next month, the tax on a Porsche Cayenne or a BMW X6 M will be €70,000 (£58,000), escalating to €90,000 by 2027. This is a substantial tax with real impact.

Unless hybrid or EV of course. I’m sure Porsche makes the hybrids specifically to get around these kinds of things.
Surprised if any such cars (their high tax brackets) were bought anyway in France as their tax was already high. Hopefully people vote with their feet and buy no cars or less cars instead.TX.

But is the 992.2 GTS a true Hybrid ? It does zero miles on Ev ... in Ev terms it's little better than those cars that use the alternator to both support torque when required and charge the 12v battery ??Our head office is in France and my colleagues who come over are repeatedly astounded at how cheap cars are here and what level of people drive what they drive.
A warehouse colleague has an older Porsche Cayenne. Maybe £10k-worth of car here, in France it's simply not feasible for an equivalent worker to own such a car due to tax.
I was informed that an Audi S3, maybe €50k, would have another €30-€40k of tax on top at purchase.
I'm not sure of the exact system over there but I was told that these punitive taxes only applies to cars up to 10 years old.
Which is why a lot of people in France drive old cars

The opposite of the UK where old cars with a bit of oomph are being VED'ed off the road. A warehouse colleague has an older Porsche Cayenne. Maybe £10k-worth of car here, in France it's simply not feasible for an equivalent worker to own such a car due to tax.

En générale, the French are less interested in cars - most see them for their practicality, and wouldn’t spend high proportions of their income/wealth on cars.
For them, life offers other more important enjoyments.
Of course there are exceptions, but for some reason the UK probably has the biggest obsession with cars in Europe.
Which is bizarre, because we have, probably, the worst roads of any major European country - and France the best.
Such irony

Au contraire, I found that driving my Caterham in France elicited far more interest than it did in England, and always got a wave (from passengers too) on the few occasions I was spotted by a French registered car over here. For them, life offers other more important enjoyments.

Top rate applies to anything over 194g CO2 /km from memory so most cars with an interesting engine.A warehouse colleague has an older Porsche Cayenne. Maybe £10k-worth of car here, in France it's simply not feasible for an equivalent worker to own such a car due to tax.

We are definitely up there but wouldn't say the biggest. The Germans I would say are number 1. Having been to Germany many times for work and leisure, almost everyone I speak to knows a family member who works for one of the big manufacturers. Cars and motorsport is almost part of their makeup and culture. Even the women over there have more interest in cars than our women over here. Italians are up there too!Mrs Big M was driving us down to the South of France in one of the M5s. We had stopped for a layover in a little French village which had a nice auberge. In the morning there was a cluster of chaps gawping at the car and they then proceeded to chase us out of the village on their mopeds shouting “M Cinq M Cinq” and taking pictures. It was all very bizarre, Mrs BigM just couldn’t figure it out at all. So yes nice cars are a rarity in France but people still seem to like them.

I think the French have little interest in owning a nice car - but a fascination for seeing nice cars because they're relatively rare.I was in one of my more sporty cars once on the péage and I had a car alongside me, a car behind and a car in front all taking video and photographs - bizarre and dangerous. Fun though.

The gendarmes love them too

The French do enjoy their cars…even Porsche’s. I attended an event organised by the French RS club a couple of years ago at Le Mans…three days of driving and enjoying great cars. The PCGB equivalent was standing around in a car park
