GT Sports Steering Wheel - Add audio buttons??
Discussion
Can anyone help, Im considering a 2017 Cayman 2.0T 718, the spec includes an optional GT Steering wheel, however I’ve just noticed that it removes the audio controls. It seems a minor thing but I’m constantly using them and would really miss them, plus it feels like something is missing and the night illumination won’t be there.
Can they be retrofitted to this model?? Seen some controls on eBay but not sure if designed for the GT Sports steering wheel.
Picture below, thanks in advance.

I don't think in the UK you can't just buy the audio button inserts, you need the full wheel. That costs c£1,300 plus fitting. There's a company in China that 'manufacture' one and may be able to supply just the inserts https://www.rennmeisterllc.com/product-category/st...
At over £1k I'm happy to reach over and adjust stuff on the PCM

Thanks for the prompt reply. Not what i wanted to hear but expected it.
The GT steering wheel is an optional extra, think I’d rather have the stock one, I’m scrolling quite a bit.
Do the audio and phone buttons light up so you can see them at night? Also, is Apple CarPlay standard, car does have Bose upgrade but doubt that would add it.

I think the very first 718s (2016 model year) didn't have CarPlay but 2017 models onwards did.
My first 718 had the standard steering wheel with no controls. I specced the multi function GT steering wheel in my current GTS (it's a relatively cheap option) and couldn't do without it. So much easier to control audio and phone functions and you don't have the extra stalk to work the functions in the right hand dial.
It's slightly smaller and nicer to hold too but then some people prefer the cleaner look of the standard wheel.

Cheers, I find an old brochure which mentioned Carplay & DAB standard on model year 2017 onwards.
I'm not sure if you can have GT Multi function steering wheel without heating, certainly seen it with heating.
i think it will be too much hassle and expense to change the whole wheel, i was hoping there may be a simple add on to give you the buttons, every car I've had had some form of steering wheel controls so just expected it.
I notice you get an extra stalk on the steering column, is it actually any use? Also, if I did manage to get just the controls added, the stalk would need to be removed, i assume the buttons won't be plug and play and need some form of pairing.

I really don't think there is any way to just add the buttons to the standard wheel. It's a complete swap or nothing I think.I'm not sure if you can have GT Multi function steering wheel without heating, certainly seen it with heating.

The extra stalk on the right hand of the steering column with standard wheel is to allow you navigate through the various functions and menus on the right hand digital dial. Things like trip computer, water and oil temps, phone connection, audio playback etc. With the GT multi function wheel you use the thumb wheels instead.
I managed perfectly well with the standard wheel for nearly four years but much prefer the GT multi function one and of course it's heated too.
