Has to be fake news.
No that is real. Porsche have said they are going to, contrary to original plans, add ICE engine option to the new Boxster and Cayman too....as well as the Taycan and others. They (and other manufactures) are rolling back from betting the farm on EV only options.Has to be fake news.
It has been confirmed by Lutz Meschke, Porsche’s Chief Financial Officer, in an interview to Auto Drive Europe that Porsche are looking into this. https://autodrive.com.bd/posts/porsche-future-evs-...
Where in this announcement did you read the Taycan is getting an engine and not the rest of the model range that had engines but were planned to become electric?
Lutz Meschke said:
We are currently looking at the possibility of the originally planned all-electric vehicles having a hybrid drive or a combustion engine. We are currently in the middle of making conceptual decisions. What is clear is that we are sticking with the combustion engine for much longer

There is absolutely no way they could “reverse engineer” an ICE Taycan. As has been said they’ve got the Panamera. 718 they can just keep making where all the regs allow although I think there are problems with EU sales.
Agree, there's no way they convert the Taycan on its current platform to combustion. However, the upcoming Boxster / Cayman EV might be doable. From the spy shots, it's pretty clearly on a 992-derived platform (contemporary Cayster and 911 have always been on a single shared platform until the current 992 was introduced and the Cayster wasn't updated) and also the Cayster EV isn't a skateboard battery, it's got a battery where the combustion engine used to be and I suspect like previous Caysters the front half of the car is largely shared with the 911.
Here's hoping, anyway.
Is the thought process people prefer the slightly different looks of the Taycan to a Panemera? I don't really understand, as mentioned above its surely the same car?
Although, if this in some way eventually leads to a Panemera Turbo Cross Turismo wagon I'm here for it. My wallet won't be.

While I personally still think it's unlikely that Porsche has u-turned on the BEV Cayster or at least decided to add an ICE variant, the reality is that were that to happen there would almost certainly be a window of time where Porsche head office had made that decision but Porsche UK would say when asked that the next 718 will be BEV, full stop.Decisions like that don't propagate out through a company like Porsche in an instant with a ready-baked PR narrative. What Porsche says in public would take a while to shift as the info is careful managed internally, then the PR bods work out how to spin it as a positive / try to make it look like it's all part of the masterplan / whatever.
In other words, a statement like that from Porsche UK can't really be viewed as definitive. But again, still think it's all a bit unlikely.
