Recently picked up a 2019 Cayenne Turbo and was told that having a dashcam hardwired in would be treated as a modification and would impact my warranty.

Unsurprisingly, Porsche do their own and if fitted by OPC it doesn't have any warranty implications.

I guess all in it's going to come close to £1k, the alternative being use a "plug in" dashcam which won't affect the warranty but without hidden wires will look crap.

Does anyone have any experience of the Porsche Dashcam?

Yes, it's not great and VERY expensive.

Temperamental and interferes with Apple CarPlay - we had to buy a cheap Android phone to talk to the Dashcam.

Surely just use a piggy back fuse and tuck the wires away behind trim? Not hard wired and only stuck to the windscreen.

Depending on what feed is needed, I had my satnav hard wired using a piggyback fuse going to a cigarette lighter so that the Garmin adapter was used intact. As such, the only mod was an additional lighter socket. This was done by Halfords for £10 plus the hardware cost. They then fed all the cabling behind the dashboard.

I got the impression that Porsche consider that to be a hard wired modification.

Which is frankly ridiculous, but not worth gambling the warranty over.

If you have a 12v socket under the dash then just run the wires to that and plug it in.

The warranty question would only arise if there was an issue with the wiring the device was attached to?

I can't see it TBH in as much as they can't kick out a warranty claim on a gearbox issue because you have a retro-fit dashcam fitted.

I had the Porsche Dashcam fitted to my 992 by my OPC for around £500, I never intended to get any sort of dash cam but after some idiot reversed into my nice shiny car and scuffed the bumper I decided to bite the bullet (in the hope that if something similar happens I may have a chance of finding the culprit)
Anyway, my car came prewired for the camera so I don’t have any Porsche warranty concerns and even though I keep hearing it’s not the best it does everything i need, the footage is good and I’ve had no issues with the App / interface.
There are cheaper (maybe better?) units out there but at £500 it works for me.

500 quid for a dashcam, dear god. They're literally renamed chinesium cameras, like BMW does.

Any idea how to tell if my car is prewired for a dashcam.

That would make the install sigificantly cheaper.

It’s true to say that the Porsche dash cam is expensive and offers limited functionality compared to other cameras on the market.

For me, however it works seamlessly (my car had the pre-wiring), is discreet and does what I need it to do:
- It records front and rear when I’m driving
- It activates in response to car park impacts when I’m not there
- It connects to my phone if I need to review or download any recorded events
- there’s no risk of any warranty issues if there are any electrical issues in the future

I was happy to pay the ‘Porsche premium’, but understand why others would not - you can certainly get a more comprehensive and cheaper dash cam.

If you can get hold of the spec sheet then this should indicate whether it’s installed or not, failing that I’m sure that your local OPC would be able to help. If it isn’t installed it will take a technician about an hour to run the cable from behind the rear view mirror down to the fuse box which is nothing really.
When I had mine installed, I was quoted the tech equipment price until I mentioned that another dealer was selling them for £499 and asked if they’d price match, which they did. Might be worth a cheeky ask - shy bairns get nowt!

Was that front only or front & rear?

Been quoted around £950 fitted by the OPC which supplied the car, on its own the dashcam is listed at £405.

I'll be contacting nearer dealers to get a price from them to help make a decision.
