Have owned my 981 Boxster for about 9 months now and quite surprised about how may other Porsche drivers give a wave. Mainly Boxsters but a stunning new 911 yesterday gave a wave. I'm not a waver, but now wavering (pardon the pun). Protocols welcome!

Doesn't really seem to be a thing over here, which is a shame.

Was over in France a couple of months ago and pretty much every Porsche driver gave a wave.

They are waving at you to get out of their way.

I just got a Taycan and owners are waving and giving thumbs up.

I'm a waver (that's probably not a word)

I currently drive a F-type and wave, I did when I owned my Cayman as well. I forget when I am in a different car and still wave.

Id like to apologise to the wavers that have waved and i haven't registered in time to wave back, and or at times ive stuck my hand up and waved out the roof.
Then it prompts me to wave at the next Porsche 911 and or other 2 seater Porsche and then they don't wave at me, then i wonder the same they just surprised and didn't respond in time.

Porsches are so common on British roads today, waving every time you see one would be positively dangerous. At best, people would think you are having an epileptic fit.

Got a tremendous wave from another cayman owner on the way back from collecting my car, rolled up alongside me on the motorway and have a very enthusiastic thumbs up, but that's been an outlier. Do sometimes give a wee nod to fellow 718s.

I try and keep it model specific but I'm not sure why...

So I lift my hand/wave at Boxsters and Caymans....
Not so much at 911s as they tend not to wave back and definitely not to the family car bunch...

We also have a 71 VW Bay camper and we/other owners go flippin' mental when another is seen...

I often wave, I find almost every time I get ignored by Cayman and Boxster owners.

When I owned both of those I always wave. Must be a new category of owner.

I always wave from my 981 Boxster and I usually get a wave back 90% of the time from other Caymans, Boxster and 911s. Call me old fashioned but I think it’s a nice thing to do and it always brightens my day. Cayennes and Macans don’t seem to bother so much though laugh

I always wave ,but tend to restrict it to other Boxsters and Caymans as the 911 crowd can’t see my hand because their noses are too big especially when trying to look down them..

Tend to get a reasonable amount of return waves but strangely i don’t wave at Macans or Cayennes…

My wife doesn’t get why i wave, but then she’s not a Porsche person..she never waves at other Nissans…

If you drive an Aston Martin, you don't wave, you just lift a gentlementy finger off the steering wheel.

I believe it's to signify tapping your pipe out !

Not really a waver but may do to be polite if someone waves at me.

A few months ago some bloke in a Rennsport was coming the opposite way and gave a salute but didn't make eye contact. Still makes me laugh thinking about that one. biggrin

I have noticed that, being in a Cayman, if I wave at a 911, I never get a wave back.

True. In fact the Lotus dealer I use has just become a Morgan dealer as well.
