Done 1500 miles in my Spyder now. Lovely machine. The wheels were repainted in Porsche silver when I bought it as I didn't like black however they've already started chipping - worse on the deeply dished rears. Not helped that they seemingly just painted over the black so as soon as it chips I'm left with the black marks. Annoying but trying to not be precious about it.

What colour code is this? In the Spyder brochure it's just "silver" and it's very bright - high level of shine. I want to get a touch up pen to sort them as they happen.

I’d speak to some reputable local wheel refurbishers, they will most likely know it. I had my 981’s done at Platinum Alloys in Swindon as part of the prep when I bought the car and they had all the correct Porsche paint codes to hand.

If you pull off the centre cap the paint code is on the back.

Put 2 allen keys in the small holes and pull the cap off. Much better if you can get a full refurb done (dip and strip) rather than just a spray over.

What you need to realise is that Porsche don’t sell their paint to anyone so the wheel refurb guys or their paint/powder supplier have settled on a match to the original colour. If it’s a straight forward silver they should have it but it’s not always a bang on match, and if they’ve been done then it’s a crapshoot.

They were originally black.

They were done by Porsche Reading (aka Porsche GBHQ) so I was hoping for a proper job.

Good tip though - I'll take them off and have a look. To the other poster - they are new centre caps to match the wheel colour change.

It's not regular alloy wheel silver - it's almost got a chromelike appearance to it.

Which, given the centre caps on Porsche black wheels are pretty much always black, tells you the centres were changed. The work to mask and paint them would make replacing them the sensible option.
