Hey folks,

Now that the Cryenne is all fixed, I fancy a road trip to Stuttgart to visit the Porsche Museum. I think it’s just the sort of roadtrip the car will be good at.

Is it worth visiting any recommended sites along the way?

Mercedes Museum is great. Also the restaurant at Porsche is very good.

You could also try the auto museum in Mulhouse. Stunning. Largest collection of Bugattis' in the world.

We enjoyed our visit last September, staying in the V8 Hotel .
Drove directly from Ijmuiden to the hotel. We incorporated the visit into our trip to Switzerland and back to Nurburgring.

That’s an awesome museum. I wanted to say it’s miles out of the way. But it turns out it’s not.

There is also a bar (it IS Germany!) if you fancy a lighter meal. Another great museum is the Technik Museum at Sinsheim, about 50 miles north of Stuttgart on the A6. (with a bar of course!) You can go inside the Concorde and Tu144, and others, on the roof. Each of the 3 museums is almost a whole day affair.

The V8 Hotel looks epic! The themed rooms especially so! This will be a solo drive (maybe next week?), so the hotel looks like a great idea thank you for sharing it smile

I'm not sure how much time I will have beyond the porsche musuem, there are so many great looking musuems nearby - going to be hard to priotize.

Well I guess if you are making the effort why not drop in at Spa & the Nürburgring - there's always something going on.

If you like a decent set of twisty back roads, you may want to consider driving the B500 route just west of Stuttgart in Baden-Baden. This will take you either south or north west and back into France depending on where you pick up the B500.

Does Stuttgart have a low emissions zone token like France does with the Critair?

You can order your umweltplakette from TUV SUD and it will come to your UK address. Valid for all Germany like Critair.

As mentioned, Mulhouse and then across to Stuttgart, do MB and Porsche, both of which are phenomenal and then back via the Speyer and Sinsheim techniks is a great round trip.

Head North via Spa or the Ring afterwards.

Nuts I was hoping to go early next week but if I need to wait for the ticket then that knackers the plan somewhat.

You can get them from any TUV station (like an MOT place) instantly for about 30 quid. Just take your V5.

Take cash though. Small town Germany is weird AF about debit cards.

We enjoyed the Merc museum best, but both are jolly good.
For anyone with some extra time in Stuttgart, this place was weirdly good https://weissenhofmuseum.de/

As others have said, also do the Mercedes museum (better IMO) and if you can book Christophorus restaurant for dinner, fantastic food and great view and superb wine list drunk

I’m currently on a similar Roadtrip. Uk to Reims for first night at Chateau d’Etoges, the V8 Hotel for the Porsche museum then Pfaffenhausen on day 3 and 4 for a service of my BTR by RUF and RUF factory visit. Followed by some meetings in Liechtenstein, Zurich and Geneva. Make sure to say hello if we cross paths!

To the OP - just do it. It’s got to be done.

Congrats!

My rough plan is Harwich/Rotterdam overnight ferry (it’s not that much more expensive than the tunnel and I get a bed)
6hr drive to Stuttgart, museum(s)
Drive back via the Ring
