In the process of picking up a 996. I live in between Wrightune, and Northway Porsche Indy Garages; has anyone got any experience of both to compare? Both seem to come really highly regarded so I guess I can’t go wrong; so maybe some feedback about model specific knowledge, price, pragmatism etc.

I used both in the past, and was happy them both too. They are like chalk and cheese though - Northway is a much bigger outfit and they always seem maxed out. You need to book well in advance if you want anything done in the spring. I might be wrong here, but I think they will only fit Porsche parts. Wrightune really is a small workshop. You can pretty much jabber away to them as much as you like. I think the labour rates are about the same, but you get the feeling Northway is run as a business, whereas Wrightune come across as enthusiasts who like tinkering (think they do/did run some racing cars/go carts)

I don't use either anymore as neither offer loan cars and public transport has become so poor I can't get to and from either without taxi's or blagging a lift.

I would say Wrightune over Northway, can go into detail on PM. If you’re in that area though, might also be worth looking at Autofarm, they are slightly more expensive but a bit easier to get to and give 10% PCGB discount (or used to anyway). They were always good with me so worth the extra.

I know it’s not answering your direct question but my personal, and reasonably extensive and long lived experience of Northway is brilliant.

The other chaps may well be just as good, or even better BUT Northway are a successful business and I wouldn’t go anywhere else when I next venture from an OPC.

Good luck either way wink

Either will see you right, both very well established and totally trustworthy.
It really depends what you want though. If it's an air-cooled rebuild or a 992 service. Ray tends to book way ahead, whereas Wrightune often can fit in a service / smallish jobs around their engine / 'box & restomod builds.

Bought my 997 from Ray and normally use Wrightune for servicing, and Ty @Riviera for paint.

Either will drop you back to a train station if you ask, though if you go with Wrightune there are several cafes in walking distance (Jim Beans Wallingford for example - best coffee in the country imo 👍)

Bought my 997 from Ray in 2012 and have been back at least yearly since (I do yearly services). Bit of a treck from London, but they've always been great. Booking ~4 weeks in advance.

Respectfully, totally disagree that they're more akin to a large outfit. Everyone there knows me by name and I know them. There are chickens running around the place ("were"?: haven't seem them this year). "My" mechanic spends nearly an hour chatting with me, be it explaining how brake nipples seize or mountain bike geometry (Ray is also a big biker).

Having said that, last 2 years I do feel they've been so busy maybe its less personal with newer clients / one-offs?

So, I think you're in safe hands there! (No feedback on Wrightune myself).

Ray Northway every time. He did some work on my 944 & was very very good. As for the wait that seems to be the norm today!
