1977 911 2.7 Restoration

I'm after a little insight regarding a potential restoration project.

The car is a 1977 911 2.7 and I'm up to speed with what it will cost to bring back up to a finished and complete state but I'm unsure as to what value range it would be in once complete. I know the 2.7 isn't necessarily 'loved' but what are peoples thoughts regarding whether this is one worth saving?

By the way, I'm not looking to return a profit but obviously want to ensure the restoration costs are worthwhile.

Likely to be a big spread, depending quality of restoration ..coupe, manual, matching numbers, RHD etc etc

I imagine the best could £50k ?

General rule is ...value will be about 75% of cost to purchase plus restoration costs

How good or bad it currently is will also have a significant bearing on cost.

It really depends on how bad it is. Bodywork, Interior, Engine, Gearbox plus brakes etc. Could easily run to £100,000. Go buy a 2.2S or 2.4S which at least will have a value when it is finished.

Question is value post restoration.....cost to restore truly is a crystal ball excersise ( at least until you get the paint off)

The 2.7 is sloooow, a dodgy engine, designed and built when Porsche was looking at the future being the front engined cars and investing little in the 911. The only plus point is that it was the last of the non/minor flared rear arch cars so is unusual from that point. Still the worse 911 I've owned.

I paid 12K for mine 10-12 years ago and it wasn't worth that then IMO, let alone the silly money they are going for now.

It's not red, red check interior with the radio aerial bolted through the nearside part of the scuttle is it? If so run for the hills.

No, not red.

I like the idea of having a nice classic 911 that's just been restored but want to make sure the investment into the work is justified.

On a 1977 2.7 911 it won't. The most unloved 911 of all time. Go buy a T if your budget is tight.
