996 Seat Swap - Will It Work?
Discussion
Hi All
I have a 2003 996 C4 Cab.
It has manual seats - not liking and not comfy.
I have a plan - but will it work?
Here is what I want:
Electric up, down, forward, back, rake AND seat base tilt.
I have found used seats that do all of this. If I just swap out will they work?
Is the car pre-wired for this?
Will I get lights come on the dash (as with BMW, Audi et al) ?
Also, the seats are grey so I need to know who can 'skin' my existing Metrolole seats and recover the others.
Is there help out there????
Thanks in advance
Andrew

Have you tried removing one of yours to check for any harness sockets already present under the carpet?
One other thing, the seat position memory. You will need the buttons etc and after that you may need a visit to OPC to activate the seat memory function in the OBC.
Otherwise, it may well be that they will work just fine if you can get power to them and to hell with the memory. I have no idea how the seat memory works, how the position is recalled, whether there is any intelligence within the seat itself that prevents it from operating correctly supplied only with power. I think not. I think that the OBC may simply measure the time that a seat adjustment off the preset takes, and when the "revert to saved" function is activated by unlocking the car or pressing a preset button, it simply reverses the operation.
Perhaps if the owner can accommodate you could try just powering them up and checking for function.
If power is all you need then you will find a way to supply it without difficulty with or without a pre-existing harness socket.
I'm just thinking aloud here, no first hand experience, sorry - mine are already electric.

I should have said that mine have an electric rake but that's all
Andrew
They all have that as a minimum. Does the car bong if you dont put your seat belt on and what about the passenger?Andrew
I had a similar boxster but cant remember it bonging. If it doesn't bong then it doesn't 'know' you are sat in the seat.
I will guess you will be fine. I know you can fit buckets in this gen Porsche without any wiring or coding problems.
