Restoration of 1970 LHD 911T Targa - where to start?

I have been asked to advise a friend regarding his options to restore a 911T Targa from 1970. It is a LHD car. He has an emotional attachment to it as he purchased the car in the UK originally when it was 6 months old - it was impossible to get hold of one in RHD in the UK. He ran it then sold it. He bought it back sometime later and used it before giving it to one of his children who stored it for nearly 20 years. The car is complete with a relatively rust free body although there are small dents on most panels and of course it will require a full repaint. It also requires a complete nut and bolt mechanical rebuild.

Any thoughts on:
A) Value now in this condition
B) Value when restored
C) Costs to restore
D) Possible parties who could take on this project?

I hear of a number of European specialists who restore 911's and other such cars. Does anyone have first hand experience of such people?

This chap in Ireland is well regarded with the Irish Porsche Club. He is currently working on a lovely RSR backdate which is not on his site.

great project and back story !!

so many 911 projects start with "little rust" and when the paint comes off look like sieves

cant help with value other than to say....

C (cost to restore) most likely be about twice B (value when restored) minus A (value now)

I would suggest getting in touch with Alan at Canford Classics in Dorset. www.canfordclassics.co.uk He has a long track record in early 911 restoration. He will be able to tell you what you're letting yourself in for!
I have no connection with his business other than being a happy customer.

As above, cranford classics plus some others (nick moss etc) will come highly (& rightly) recommended.

Thing is, with restoration costs having at least doubled in the last 5-10 years I'd be looking to Europe if we were doing it again.

Specifically Poland.

Any specific leads on the restorers in Poland? I have heard good things about Polish automotive engineering?

A good lead in Ireland as well as we have connections in Ireland via Mondello Park, the International Motor Racing Circuit.

as mentioned above .. get on DDK. There is virtually nothing the DDK collective don't know about early Porsches and they're a friendly bunch too 8)

No specific recommendations for Porsches in Poland but a little digging around on Google will probably show up some hits.
