Copied over from the 911uk forum to get some more coverage.
Getting wet carpet and windows.... BUT I *think* I might have got somewhere..... however I need the 996-massive to clarify something for me.....

Now MY (VERY) limited understanding was that there are drains in the frunk - however, I only thought there were 2 - one either side.

Looking at these photos, there appears to be FOUR - 2 per side.... can anyone confirm this is the case because check out these pics:

Offside 1 - closest to the drivers wing-mirror CLEAR - water pours through

Offside 2 - drivers side, but closer to the battery

This looks completely blocked with silt/crud...... do we have a winner?

Nearside 1 - closest to the passenger wing-mirror CLEAR - water pours through

Nearside 2 - passenger side, closer to battery CLEAR - water pours through

Not done anything about it yet, as I want clarification that I'm not digging around a grommet biggrin

Thanks in advance,

Dan

You can't necessarily rely upon how many drains another owner's car has. This may have changed from year to year. No matter how many drains the car has you obviously need to clean the trash out and make sure all drain freely. Treat the drains and basins with gentleness. You do not want to damage the basins or the drains. You want the water to drain freely down and out the drain and though the hose which should carry the water down far enough it does not get on the car and possibly flow to where it shouldn't.

You need to check under the seats for dampness and if you find some probably remove the seats, at least the one under which the security module is located and carefully check the security module for signs of water damage, corrosion. It doesn't take much moisture to run one of these.

Be careful around the security module. You can ruin one with a static discharge.

Thanks - will check, but I'm 99% certain there's no other "wetness" in the car - just by the pedals.
The rest of the drivers carpet/floor (ie by the expensive stuff!) is completely dry smile

OK - update.

All carpets are dry with exception of point around the pedal. I've cleared out the drain - lots of crud and now free flowing*
  • scoop out and then use a syringe with hot water.
I checked around the foam on the passenger's side - all fine: no issues with the pipework there.

Not had chance to get the wheel off and the liner, but that's my next plan IF this doesn't work.

I've also looked further at the drain that looks like it isn't there: it IS in place - just part of the flange has worn off. Seems to be working fine.

The only other things I can think of is the door seal (not an obvious, but they're not too expensive to replace.)
or getting the windscreen re-seated....... I noticed a bit of the scuttle trim is a little loose.

might just simply be that with the sheer amount of rain we've had, these minor issues are joining forces.....

Will report back.

The additional wiring on the RHS of the car is non-standard; the silicone sealer is a worry too. When I have seen 9x6 with water ingress the culprit has been the body grommet on the bulkhead - it is a very simple way into the cabin for 3rd party wiring and also the CDC wiring if retrofitted; the grommet is usually pierced and the wiring passed through - the location of the wiring can lead to water entering the cabin - especially if the drains are blocked (the area is designed wet). Check the entry points for the non standard wiring; make sure the grommets are watertight / that the wiring doesn't channel water through the grommet.

Thanks Pope smile

No need to worry about the non-standard wiring and silicone - it's just where I was feeding my amp power through the grommet. I wanted to ensure that the hole was FULLY sealed, and in my haste, used a bit too much silicone biggrin
I've also ensured that by the entrance to the bulkhead, it's dry (and it is), but I will keep an eye on it (of course, the weather's dry at the moment biggrin )
